By the way, is it true that the new Canon lenses, like the EF-70-200 F2.8L IS MK 3, are made in Taiwan and not in Japan anymore?
Thanks.

I can't say which exactly but they did announce earlier this year that they hope to bring some production back to Japan by making production more efficient, etc. In the end I don't really mind where a lens is produced as long as the facility meets Canon's requirements for quality. I guess others may feel differently. Sometimes not taking a photograph can be as problematic as taking one. - Alex Webb

This could have changed as Canon has advertised making larger production facilities in Taiwan. But they have the same QC in whatever country, so why should it matter if it's made in Japan or Taiwan (only lemon of a Canon equipment I had was made in Japan btw)? Canon 5D mk IV

Sir_Loin Senior Member More info | Nov 26, 2018 12:17 | #6 I think all L series lenses are still made in Japan because they are their premium lenses so they will want absolute control of quality. Having said that all my EF-M lenses were made in Taiwan and they’re just fine and the 50mm STM is made in Malaysia, again no problems.
