Tim, I had the same idea today. This is from about 4 p.m. I couldn't get an image with accurate colors. I've PPed it to a close approximation from memory. The sun's disk, blown here, was solid red.
The huge Camp Fire is in the Sierra Nevada foothills, some 170 miles northeast of here. Wind is blowing the smoke this way. People are advised to limit outdoor activity. If you go outside and inhale, you know why. By this morning, the air in our house didn't smell so good, either.
