I know when we were in Norway, way back in 1974, that we bought fish of a similar size, beheaded and gutted, and just fried them. They were delicious, as I remember, I think! Perhaps not too fussy after a couple of weeks camping and making do ... :-)

Napier - Marine Parade.

I haven't used this lens much lately, and probably not in such contrasty light. It performed well.

This is an important tourist destination in NZ. Tourist liners berth at the port, and at times it seems there are more tourists than residents. A quiet wander today thankfully, although I wasm't in the city centre. Although on busy days the Marine Parade is not a place to be.

I biked into Washington DC this past Sunday in search of some fall colors around the tidal basin. I had read that this was the time of peak color for us, although they haven't been as bright as usual this year. The same article said that this was because we had an unusually warm September and first half of October, which seemed to confuse the trees somewhat (not the scientific explanation but it paraphrases my takeaway).

I'm still post processing and I hope to have a couple of images to post over the next few days.

Anyway, while I was doing that, I found another aspect of mirrorless that I need to adjust to, namely, using a polarizer. With a DSLR, I'm used to being able to rotate the polarizer and immediately see its effect in the viewfinder. On the M5, as I rotated the polarizer and it darkened and lightened the sky, the AE system would adjust the shutter or ISO (I was shooting in Av) and change the brightness in the EVF to keep things somewhat uniform. I found that this, combined with the way the EVF shows colors, made it more difficult to know when the polarizer was set just the way I wanted.

From just looking through the images I took quickly, it looks like I got the polarizer right on with some of them, and way off with others.

Any words of wisdom on polarizer use from the more experienced mirrorless users around here?

As promised, here are a couple of pics of fall colors around the Tidal Basin in Washington DC. It was November 4, a week or so past when we usually get peak, and the warm fall had messed things up a bit. I'm not sure I like how the colors came out with the polarizer, but as I mentioned earlier, I need to learn how to use it with the M5 since the EVF compensates for it in real time.

Pakowhai Park with the dog today. Nick named this tree the "kapok" tree, because of the effect of the iwnd dispersing the seeds. Also impressed with the bokeh the EF-M 55 -200 can produce.
