Canon has had the control ring on a number of lower end and beginner cameras for a while, and it makes sense they add this now that they have a larger communications bus at the mount.

The way they tied the thumb wheel and the finger wheel is genius. You can use them in the traditional Av/Tv way. Or if you shoot in Fv, the thumb wheel scrolls between Av, Tv, Exp Comp and ISO. Then the finger wheel changes that setting. Then if you hit the multi function button, the thumb and finger do the same thing with another set of controls that used to be dedicated buttons on top of the DSLR's. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's really genius I think.

I didn’t try Fv to much... wish I did. Only spent a few minutes with it. In the past I’ve been mostly a control freak letting the camera do nothing. But then with the busted main wheel the last year it was a challenge mostly... letting the camera run some portion or maybe just iso. In the end I enjoyed the challenge. Lol.

But ya the way this R works is very enjoyable to shoot. Is it perfect mmmm nope but what is... I got a ton of great stuff from a camera the world poo poord

Let’s a great question... I would shoot the R just because it’s an underdog, did the same with the 7DII lol.
I gave the first one back because I was unsure of the entire af system and needed more time to ponder the entire camera. I think it’s the future.. I like shooting it. I think a guy like me would need a second crop (7DII) as well. At this point I’m using the 1Div... it’s interesting in its own right but not in the same way. More like an old friend as aposed to a new girl friend lol :p:-D. If I can remember lol. Married 35 years.

. . .needed more time to ponder the entire camera

Guess I should have known from your username

Anyway, you seem to be able to take (make) beautiful photos no matter which camera you are using, so I guess it doesn't matter that much in the long run--it's just whichever one you like & enjoy using the most.

That is so true... If your inspired you can do some great stuff... And your right Pondering is my bigger down fall. lol

A couple of Dragonflies at the Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane this morning.

I used the Canon EOS R / Canon EF - RF Adapter / 25mm Canon Extension Tube / Canon 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 L IS USM Mk II for these.

Cheers

Dennis

Can we talk about an elephant in the room that I haven't seen anybody speak about yet?

Canon is actually charging $1 more for the bundle of the 24-105 v. buying the components separately. Insult to injury enough in and of itself, but don't they usually substantially discount the bundled lens when bundled? I mean after all, isn't that the incentive to buy the bundle to begin with??? I get that it's all probably because it's a new lens line, but this is certainly going to "give" at some point, right?

I'm just not sure there's enough incentive here to buy the RF version. I have a 24-105L and I have to buy an adapter anyway. You would think they would incent buying the bundle but alas, here we are.

Doing some research on the RF35 and getting very excited for it to come. I preordered it from Adorama last week. Hopefully it will be in the first shipments. I'm really getting excited about the whole R ecosystem and it's only just beginning.

Would love to see some more formal portraits in great light from this sensor

The 1Dx2 files are just so much nicer than the 5D4 files for portrait needs. Skin tones and colors are really the best I have used and I prefer those files over the 5D4 files.

So I am really interested in seeing what this sensor brings to the table for skin tones and true colors for people. I love what i see so far with the wildlife and insects

More people pretty please
