I can't keep it, unfortunately. My rational side won this time :-( I think my next camera purchase will be when Canon releases the right pro-mirrorless body in the future.

Someone's going to get a great deal on this baby!

Best camera I’ve ever shot. Of course, I’ve never used the 5D4.

LOL!

I’m weak...

With the evolution to mirrorless and the inevitable retirement of the DSLR, the smart move would be to pass on this 1DX2. But, with gear, I’ve always been someone who uses what’s there now, versus waiting for the next best thing. Someday, sure, I’ll go mirrorless, but in this moment I’m going to thoroughly enjoy this cream of the crop 1 series body, and keep shooting what I love.

My other hesitation is: what will the 1DX2 bring to the table that my 5D4 doesn’t provide? It delivers the shots I want, no complaints, this 1 may be overkill! Probably, but I have a suspicion that it’ll deliver that last bit of performance and feature set that I didn’t know I was missing.

One thing I’m going to have to get used to is that the 1DX2 is my only DSLR without a touchscreen or wireless. Already fingerprinted up the new screen with a failed swipe haha

Kim, the 5D4 is marvelous! It’s been a stout, dependable companion, and I’m definitely keeping it until it crumbles into magnesium and plastic dust.

I think that may well be what you will find Matthew.

As good as the 5d4 is at everything it does, the 1dxii just does it better, quicker, or more precisely, with a few extra features to round out the set like spot metering on any of the 61 AF points amongst others.

I have absolutely no doubt you will enjoy it.

I agree with graham121.

Every shot you take with the 1DX2 will be better than anything you take with the 5D4. I have both bodies; have had them both for more than two years. I shoot both regularly. But there continues to be something extra in the 1DX2 images. It's subtle. It may take a while for your eyes to see it.

The 1DX2 is much better at anything with action. I shoot airshows, grandchildren, and birds. All are much easier and more reliable with the 1DX2 than the 5D4.

Although I'm retired, I still really like the size and weight of the 1DX2. It feels great for the things I do. The 5D4 just doesn't balance quite as well.

I like the 5D4 for landscapes, cityscapes, etc. But for anything with fine detail, the 1DX2 shines.

Enjoy your decision. You'll soon be hooked. ;-)a

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Now you'll not misplace the battery grip any longer.

There's a touch screen on the 1DX Mark II, but Canon has, in their incomprehensible wisdom, crippled the functionality of it to mainly allow for handling focusing in live view and video modes.
You can add the WFT-E6x or WFT-E8x to the 1DX Mark II, in order to get WiFi. It already has Gigabit Ethernet via cable built in.

David: if I'm lucky, that will be remedied next month when the 600 III arrives. If I'm lucky... there's a good chance Canon may only send 2 or 3 over, and I'll be on a waiting list for months. That would suck.

Today though, I'm going take the 100-400 II out for a spin!

I am considering buying this lens to go with my incoming 1DX2, I will be interested as to how well you can crop with it.

Nice! You sprang for the 1DX2?! Congrats!

I just got back from my inaugural outing with the 1DX2 and 100-400 II. It's a different feeling camera compared to the 5D4, that's for sure. It's all business, and that 14FPS is like a machine gun, it just rips!

Hermit Thrush... not much of a challenge for this camera, but you take what you can get :)

Have Canon sorted out the oil splatter problem on the later builds? I have just stumbled on this issue and have read about this matter and it is concerning me, it could very possibly influence my decision not to buy the 1DX2 and go with the 5D4. Getting it sorted through warranty would prove quite expensive for me- two plane journey (I hate flying with a passion!!) and 150 kms driving to and fro to the airport, this is also a major factor to consider. I've had enough of this with my 7D2.
It has been mentioned that shooting the 1DX2 at high burst rates in higher temperatures makes the oil more viscus (obviously) and this can lead to the contamination, the temp in Crete can get up to 40c in the Summer so oil splatter is going to happen unless Canon have sorted it out. I am not paying £5K+ on a camera I can only use when it's cold!!

So 1DX2 shooters what is the state of play regarding this please.
