Do you hypnotise your subjects or something? Looking at your rig, there should be no way in the world you could "sneak up" that close on anything that has eyes, especially aerial hunters like dragonflies and damsels!
Hah - you should see the dozens of deleted images of blank leaves or OOF insects.
I think that a lot of insects can almost feel the "pressure" of your gaze and will then fly off. Certainly I have found that just pointing at a specimen can make it take flight - they must have good defence sensors.
Every once in a while, you come across one insect who just seems to tolerate your presence provided you move very slowly and avert your vision so you seem almost disinterested in the subject. My biggest problem with the rig is that the overhead Speedlite will often clip some foliage and spook the insect. So much of this hobby is also luck.
