I felt bad trying to photograph him, because I imagine he was trying to hide from the humans. The brush was crazy thick & blowing in the wind so I had to do the best I could manual focusing, waiting on the wind to open a line of site, bent over, hand held. Not easy for an old fart like me! Lol! Long-Eared Owl Ft. Worth, TX. 11/17/18 Old fart or not, you still nailed the shot, well done Phil. Canon R6 II, RF 800mm.

Nov 19, 2018 10:44 | #29754 PCousins wrote in post #18753956 Thank you Jack..... If you are near Plymouth it's worth a visit. I spent just over 2 hours looking for this bird. As the afternoon was moving on I was getting concerned that I would not find it. Eventually it turned up on the chapel roof, it saw me and like most redstarts it was very inquisitive to want to check me out and landed on one of the gravestones 20ft from me. As I was positioning myself to get the strong light behind me it was flying around me and was landing almost where I wanted it to. After 10 minutes taking photo's it flew off and turned up again 20 minutes later for less than a minute. In that time I'm certain that there was a second bird although not seen together I could hear them calling to each other and looking back at my photo's the possible 2nd bird appears lighter and not as dark. Difficult to say. Good luck if you go looking for it. What a beautiful bird it is! Canon 7D2 · 16-35 f/4L IS · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 50 f/1.8 · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400L IS II

Lame-Duck wrote in post #18754143 Spectacular shot, in every way. Thanks guys. Sadly I have to give a bit of credit to our terrible air quality. The smoke has caused everything to be bathed in an eerie golden hour type light. Fuji XT-2, XT-3, Sony A1, A7RIV, A9, and an OM-1
