I went to the local camera shop yesterday and looked at the Tamron G2 lens. Seems very nice and I was able to play with it a bit on a Canon 7D MkII body. Could not tell any difference in focus speed from the Canon 70-200L II in the setting of the shop anyway.

its focus was very fast and accurate for me. That was the one lens that was making me hold off when i was looking to move away from Canon to fuji. I do miss that lens

Considering the lens and upgrading from 7D to a 7D Mk II at the same time. Did you buy/use the Dock?

So I purchased the Tamron 70-200 G2 and a new 7D II. Still trying to get the hang of both of them. Don't know if I need some focus fine tuning or if it is mostly user error (very likely).

This lens has been working great married to my 7d mark i, shooting 14U hockey, the only complaint I have is with the zoom ring.....it's opposite Canon's and it has burned me a few times, I'm still trying to reprogram this task in my brain, but I love this lens, no regrets on the purchase.

I agree. My other lenses are all Canon so rotate the other way. Takes some practice to remember the correct way to zoom with the Tamron lens

Ah man,... you guys have it easy. You guys will figure out the whole 'to the right' vs 'to the left' thing in no time. As a Nikon shooter, I gotta deal with the zoom and focus ring being switched around. Stability suffers and won't get better over time. I guess equally frustrating in the end tho. Still agreed, great lens!

The more shots that I take with the lens, I continue to be impressed with it's sharpness. I think it is probably only limited by my skills. The AF speed seems good too.

So was finally able to shoot some indoor sports (basketball) with the 7D II and the Tamron. Aside from learning that I need a faster shutter speed that 1/500, I thought the Tamron lens did very well.

Nice shots Jorgac,... really nice. Surprised you froze that action in the B&W so well at only 1/400. I shoot a lot of High School and College baseball and 1/400 just doesn't cut it when trying to freeze the players at Full Military Speed. And forget about freezing ball and bat. Yeah,... the 70-200 G2 is an excellent piece of glass. Again,... great shots!

Looks like the 70-200 G2 has a firmware update,... just loaded it. I can't tell whether I'm late or early to the game. Only discovered it when I Tapped-In a couple hours ago to make some adjustments. Version 2. If I'm very late,... disregard.
