Litchfield Park Road, sounds like a quiet, leafy suburban avenue. Then you get that monster roaring down at you! Great shot, good use of the light & the dust.

Lol, true! I was a bit lucky with the light. I was driving a small tourist bus when I spotted it coming, pulled over and snapped off a few frames through the windscreen. I'll send it to the tourists to remind them where they've been.

Dust mostly. The snorkels are not only for water crossings, they reduce the amount of dust sucked into the engine and therefore prolong engine life. Of course they do have to drive through water at river crossings from time to time as well. Australia is a dry continent but when it rains it floods and they can't afford to wait too long for the flooding to subside. It could be weeks. For your amusement here's (external link) footage of one crossing a ford. Only shallow but it didn't slow down much.
