So a little news, i finally picked up a 1DmkIV last week. Been around the houses but only £580 and 140,000 clicks, so im happy with that. Auto iso in manual is a godsend and i can ditch the 1.4x convertor thanks to the extra megapickles. Huge iso files from it are fine for what i do and just for nostalgia I've changed the file names to those from my old mkIII, which ill be using with a 200mm whatever the wife lets me buy. Cfs were set to match my old body and were fine straight out of the gate when i used it on Sunday

Weather conditions and light terrible today. Almost lost the will to live with it..Then I managed to grab this shot below which I'm pleased with, made my day and probably my best yet imo, though still loads of room for improvement.

I really like the mood in the front row shot here with it being nice and gritty. A good subject for mono too.

Classic coalface shot! I like the colors (or lack thereof) too.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Absolutely love the framing on this one Ence, you clearly have a handle on this despite what you're telling us :p I'm gonna be hyper critical, and bear in mind i know next to nothing about this stuff, but it could do with a tweak just to make it perfect. I took the liberty of dropping the exposure and upping the contrast and saturation to really make it a wall hanger. Cracking shot mate.

Thanks bildeborg, got to work on the post processing, maybe a better monitor or two are needed. I’ve only really taken up photography seriously in the last year.. toyed with it previously to record other hobbies. Not a rugby fanatic as such.. a retired work collegue manages this team, Aylesford Bulls.. He’s given me access all areas after I approached him for the opportunity to improve my photography skills. This is the fourth game I’ve been along to. Starting to get into it and do what I think is right rather than what I think the players want to see. They’re a great bunch of guys who appreciate my sometimes mediocre efforts.

I’m probably my harshest critic, pleased with this shot.. a 7/10 now an 8/10 thanks to your adjustments. If I can do less machine gunning and crop a little less It’d be a 9  A flying try caught mid air would be the money shot for me.

Thanks again for taking the time to post, most appreciated.

Great capture of 2 front rows not easy to get, tried many times but half back gets in the way.

This is the best I have done with the front row photos, only 1/2 of the pack.

Royal Lancers officers vs troopers game. Officers by a single, unconverted, try in the 70th minute.
HARD game.
