I watched this grow out of the rock over a period of years. This was just west of Kingman, Az. along the south track. Pretty stout boy, considering the angle.

That is amazing! Is that a cactus? The 2nd photo makes it clearer what we are looking at.

Yeah, a barrel cactus. Usually grows out in the desert, but not this bad boy, he chose to grow straight out from the rock face. Good size too! LOL!

And considering that there wouldn't be much soil inside that crevice to provide nutrients and water and a foothold.
