This has been my experience as well. 1Dx2 look better, have true color and they are sharper to my eye. I also think they handle the highlight adjustments a ton better than the 5D4 files
It may be in combination w/ the AF-point linked metering, but the 1DX2 does a LOT better job of metering. Also, for these ISO values, the 1DX2 held together just a little better as well.

This matches what I've seen when I've done the same test. The 1DX2 wins even when cropping. I did another test and asked my wife to pick 1 or 2 on the basis of which has better details. She didn't know what was being compared (ie, camera, lens, postprocessing, etc). She picked 2.
My wife picked the 5D4 shot, only because she liked the pose of the owl better. She didn't notice the extra 10MPX
So now that I've been able to see these photos on a larger (non-Retina) LCD monitor at work, I'm seeing the 5D4's resolution advantage is the minute detail in the bark of the tree. It's by no means a huge difference, and I'd be hard pressed to pick it out if presented the two shots side by side. Yet, I'm certain that in some scenarios the 10MPX advantage would be apparent, but is it enough when compared to the other 1DX2 features, that I will pick the 5D4 over the 1DX2 for my regular shooting? Not a question I need to answer because I'm keeping both, but from here on out I know what camera is going outdoors with me
