Thanks for sharing, the results look great!
Was the modifier at a 45degree angle? I have some school photos I will be doing soon and I want to mimic that setup with possibly a reflector on the opposite side to fill in shadows a bit. Thanks!

RicoTudor Senior Member 676 posts Likes: 386 Joined Jul 2014 Location: Chicago, IL More info | Nov 21, 2018 05:22 | #11452 Boring gear shot exercises my next-generation scheme to create the alpha channel for tabletop subjects. Result first: Five rollers, two alu stands and a tripod are crowding the space for this setup: From left to right: baby roller holding foamcore for frontal fill; junior roller holding tray for subtractive velvet; baby roller holding taking camera on a gimbal; tripod holding subject; alu stand holding bare Speedlight for on-axis fill; alu stand propping foamcore to bounce illuminate lens front; junior roller holding overhead diffusion panel of Rosco Rolux; junior roller holding Profoto 7" Fresnel. Four frames SOOC used to generate the alpha channel: Exposure was 6s with color balance set to flash. This was fixed for all frames so I didn't touch the camera. Shutter was triggered by PW and signal relayed to the Profoto pack and Speedlight. For the alpha channel frames, light came from the fluorescents and flash units were disabled. For the main shot, flash was enabled and ambient light was extinguished. My new system for alpha involves white paper and black velvet. The background was computed from the large paper sheet on the floor, while the tripod assembly was removed by the velvet tray. You can see a slip of paper on the tray which was cut to size to outline the lens where it intersected the tripod head. All the processing was performed by Gimp in layers. Canon, Nikon, Contax, Leica, Sony, Profoto.
