Beautiful shots Craig.

It looks like he has zip ties on one of his legs. Not banding, but zip ties....????....

Maybe an "owner" had multiple Mandarins and decided to distinguish them by the number of black ties. The duck didn't look uncomfortable to me on Saturday when I saw it (the last time it was reported, I think), but those ties looked a little tight.

Thanks! Yeah I thought the same thing? I like Johns thoughts about the zip ties, makes sense to me.

I spoke to the duck, and it confided to me that it would rather be a Mandarin Duck with two black ties than a Peking Duck with no black ties.

The duck made it to the media and so people who do not normally look at ducks were looking for it. On the days I was looking for it but it wasn't there, people saw me with my big lens and thought I could show it to them. They came up to me with big bright eyes and bushy tails and all I could say was tht it seemed to be absent that day. I rn into people who drove 100 miles to see it on a day it wasn't found.

Yes, I'd be surprise if those bands on its legs came from any official banding scheme. I think it's more likely this bird has escaped from someone's private collection!
