Fixed-Lens Photo Challenge #008: All Lit Up

It’s that time of year when the days here are long & dark so let’s see what lights up your little piece of the world.

Remember, if you post a photo, you may be the winner. Be prepared to host and judge a new challenge.

To submit, click the button labeled "POST TO THREAD" and put your photo title in the first line of the post, above your photo. Your camera brand and model must appear in the post. Include additional EXIF data, if you like.

Enter just one photo.

Post until Monday noon GMT, 17 December 2018.

Rules

  1. Camera: Any fixed-lens camera, all brands and models. Cell phones are also included. No DSLRs!

  2. Time: Any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible except photos that have won other POTN competitions.

  3. Size: Photo must be no less than 800 pixels and no more than 1600 pixels on the longest side, with no borders.

  4. Postprocessing: Do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.

  5. Photo Display: Photos must appear in this thread to be eligible.

  6. Commenting: No commenting or descriptions on photos by anyone, including the photographer. Once the winners are declared, photographers can add comments to their images and everyone is invited to discuss. The host and others may also post photos after the winners are announced.

    Hosting

    1. The challenge host is the winner of the last challenge.

    2. As soon as possible after your win is announced, start a thread in the Competitions forum with this title: Fixed-Lens Challenge #XXX: Subject.

    3. To use this format for posting your challenge, use the MQ button down in the right corner of the screen. Then hit 'Start A New Thread'.

    4. Soon after noon GMT on the next Monday, post your choices for first, second, and third place. No ties, please. Comments on the photos are nice but not required.

    5. If the winner can't be contacted and doesn't respond by Wednesday noon GMT, the second-place winner will host the challenge. If both are unavailable, the third-place winner will host.

Schedule

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:
  • New Topic: As soon as possible after winning.
  • Posting Starts: Right after topic is announced.
  • Posting Stops: Monday noon GMT.
  • Winners Announcement: As soon as possible, max. until Tuesday nioon GMT.

Folks, I am going to say this as nicely as I can. No comments or descriptions of your photo entry is allowed. You may give it a descriptive title however. Martin, I hope you don’t mind me using you for an example. Instead of it saying Sunset from my patio, you could make it Patio Sunset. Leaving ‘my’ out of the sentence makes it a title instead of a description. I know things were a little different in the last competition & a little adjustment is needed. If you have any questions or concerns, please message me.

I'm not sure why "Sunset from My Patio" could not be the title of the photo. Why not a descriptive title?

I don’t see any wording in the challenge rules that requires a specific kind of title. If that is a new rule, Maureen, maybe we could wait until the next challenge to enforce it? Eh, this one’s over already anyway, lol. Tbh, I don’t understand your request.

Winners at the top.

I was just trying to give an example of how a title can be worded to sound more like a title than a sentence. My Patio Sunset would work although it wasn’t particularly bad in its original form.
I dont want to pick on anyone but offer some helpful suggestions on titling your photos.
Trumper, you could have just said “Our Christmas Tree” or “Lights on the Tree”. Lt. Dave, yours could say “New Fluorescent Lights”. I hope this helps & no one has any hard feelings.
