Will, you're my Texas touchstone because you get all of our summer birds during the winter, so I can check in and see how they're doing :) American Redstarts are extremely difficult to capture clearly, you've done a nice job on this one here. Interesting to see the male in his non-breeding plumage.

I hear ya Matt. I try to keep up everyday but, it's almost like a job. I'm sure I miss some people and really hate to do that. I'd really rather be out shooting with camera or gun, than sitting behind my computer most of the day. Anyway Matt, thanks for your response, and keep on pushing that shutter button.

Combination of kid + work does me in most days. It's a fight trying to break off some time once a week to go out and shoot, and it's a coin flip if the weather is cooperating on those days. It's hard to participate on a photography forum if I'm not doing any photography. Such is life though, I wouldn't trade it for anything :)

Since you're a hunter, I can see how it segues over to photography because you must see some amazing stuff while you're sitting out there waiting around for game. My brother in-law is a fowl taxidermist/hunter, I keep asking him for tips on finding the interesting birds.

OMG, what a great shot, Melissa. I love this one. How did you get this guy to pose so nicely in a tea cup?

Thanks, Mike! Black oil sunflower seeds! I just set the cup of seeds out in the snow, hoping a little bird might perch on the edge. This little one stopped by to check it out in no time, perched on the edge and took a few seeds, then jumped right in.

I think this works fine. The goldfinch cooperated very well with you. Nice shot.

Trik wrote in post #18773617 (external link)
That's either a very small bird, or very large cup, Mel... If the latter : milk, no sugar please! ;-)a

shooz wrote in post #18773620 (external link)
It may not be everyone’s cup of tea ( :p ), but I think it’s pretty creative !

Jack Dawe wrote in post #18773718 (external link)
I think it's kinda cute - and very well executed.

Thanks, guys! Glad you like it.

Trik, it's a very small bird! Just an average size teacup. But you're still welcome to come have a (small) cup of tea!

Is this Sirocco, that charming and charismatic kakapo that acts as an ambassador for saving his species? If so, I do hope he will be allowed to find a partner before too long. I know he was hand-reared so is imprinted on humans, but, still...
