Grasshopper, in the Amazon sadly they were not as colourful as at higher altitudes

Lovely series.

Interesting your comment about colour linked to altitude.

I guess the more temperate the environment the less niche separation there is between species and less evolutionary drive for colour.

That is possible, I don't think it has been that well studied. Colombia is a great country because there is so much variation between different places.
For example there are loads of these wingless wasps (correction ant, Pseudomyrmex boopis) in a park in Cali, so many it is harder not to find them than do so. (Cali is my wife's home city, when I next go there I want to find them catching something).
However I have never seen them anywhere else in Colombia.
