The steam from the water created this wonderful mood as the sun rose over the Guadalupe River.

35mm has long been my favorite FL and I'd love a native f1.8 or f2 option that's not too big/heavy (I picked up a ZF.2 35/1.4 - love it optically but it can double as a bludgeoning device). My preference is towards the typical Zeiss rendering and color (which a number of Sony lenses share to a certain extent) and I just don't understand why this gap hasn't been filled.

Snapshot this morning of the front yard. Our lake is 90% frozen over now.
Not aweful cold, 18F when I woke up. 8-10 inches of snow on the roof. More
snow coming tonight.

Bill make sure you handle an a6500 before adding one.
I know IDSurfer loves his. My thoughts on it after getting used to the buttons and dials
on the R3 and a9 spoiled me against the a6500....so I sold it in anticipation of the mini-a9.

I'll be really curious how Sony prices the mini-a9. It might be a rare case where an APS-C body
costs more than the FF A7iii. I'd think it would have to be cheaper but only Sony knows.

Here's the better-half presenting me with a TTS (typical tourist shot) opportunity at Bandelier.
Again me using the 24/1.4 a lot on the trip.

Robert this is an "if you get down to my price" buy. I don't need it honestly. Would like the crop body but can wait.

Bill I understand but couldn't wait....when I saw the Nikkor 500PF I pre-ordered but didn't have a Nikon
body. So I had little choice but to add one and that put me back with an APS-C D500. No regrets on that
lens/just as sharp as my old EOS 500ii I labored under for two years, but the D500 feels a step back from
mirrorless. It tracks fine but via the LCD in the field I never know what I've actually got until I get home to
a pc.

I shake my head everytime I think about it, but since you're ok with MF, you should look into the voigtlander 35 f1.7 with filter correction, or the loxia 35. Voigtlander is very zeiss like and amazing IQ, and loxia is a zeiss lens ;-)a

Ha! I wouldn't say I love the a6500 at all.....It's what I have. I switched to Sony mirrorless APS-c when the a6500 came out. I switched from big FF canon DSLR's. I don't really shoot long lenses so I wanted to seriously downsize my kit for portability. I've been able to put together a VERY small kit from a size/weight standpoint and it's very convienient (and discrete) to take anywhere. I like how it feels in the hand. I have learned to use the rangefinder style EVF despite being a left eye shooter. I can even live with the limited dials.

But....and this is a big but (:-P I crack myself up)....I've said it before and I'll say it again....I have NEVER thought the a6500 was a "fun" camera to use. In fact it's kinda a PIA really. There are a few things that IMO totally suck and make for an unfriendly user experience. But it's what I have and I'll make do....for now. No doubt I'll switch it up when something comes along that will perhaps make for a more enjoyable shooting experience. Maybe it'll be whatever Sony offers up for the next APS-c??? It's gonna have to be small though....I'm done with big camera gear. I don't even want to shoot with the A7 sized cameras. Not to mention the price of the lenses!!

For Will in Tejas, I'd say wait to see what the next APS-c offering will be from Sony. Then make the choice.

Yeah, I've looked at both (I keep an eye on ebay for aggressive prices on the Loxia), but haven't yet delved in to the front filter thing on the Voigtlander - more of a "one more thing to mess with" mental obstacle than anything. The CV 40/1.2 and new Zeiss Batis(?) 40 would actually be an option, though I still have reservations on both of those, too. I'm not in a huge hurry, so I'll keep tabs and continue to form my second-hand opinion on those options while I lug around the 35/1.4.

I spent the entire day, from sunrise to sunset, exploring Atlanta and the surrounding areas with the Sony yesterday. After leaving the Jackson Street Bridge, I ended up going to the Krog Street Tunnel. Graffiti artwork is not only allowed there, it's encouraged by the city. Because of this, no two day's artwork are the same and you see some absolutely beautiful work done. After stopping for lunch, I headed to Arabia Mountain east of the city. I experienced the most beautiful sunset there and then got to watch the full moon rise. It was a surreal experience. Here are some photos from both those places!

Made it to the famous Jackson Street Bridge this morning for some sunrise pictures. Didn't get the cloud coverage or colors I was hoping for, but I might head back for sunset!

samyang makes a litterally tiny 35mm f2.8, i picked one up, super tiny and very good, quiet and fast focusing, i picked up the samyang dock and updated all my lenses, u can adjust focus and such withthe dock to fine tune the lenses, i picked up the f1.4 version also and to be honest i like the f2.8 better.

Amazing how fast they grow up. For 2019 I want to take more videos of the kids, photos after a while start to look similar, especially when you take bursts and they all look good, but even 10-20 clips of my girls always tends to leave a smile on my face.

They grow up too fast. I need to do a better job of documenting as much as I can, and its mostly a matter of making things easier for myself and simply accepting that IQ compromises usually aren't a big deal when it comes to documenting family. I don't think smartphones are there (yet), but there's a lot of great middle of the ground gear out there.

The working theory is that Sony has been holding back on an FE 35 F2 to protect the sales of the Rx1 cameras. It's the only reason that makes sense, given that the 35mm is such a crucial focal length.

FE 35 f2.8 is worth considering though, given the used prices of that thing now. Colors are have that zeiss quality, though its a little flat in terms of microcontrast. F2.8 still produces a decent amount of bokeh if you frame tightly.....I'm finding that with my kids, I'm near MFD most of the time anyway because they're tiny people :-)
