Does he rhink he's a dog? Usually we see this in dogs:-|?
Don't worry it will soon heal, as soon as the abces is opened the worst is over.

Thank you to everyone who posted comments and good wishes. He is doing better, and the place where the stitches came out is healing nicely along with the rest of the incision. He seems to have resigned himself to the cone. Actually yes, he does seem to think he is a dog, as he plays fetch, follows me around the house, and is unable to meow (in all fairness, he can't bark either). The vet says she sees about two cases a month of ruptured anal sacs (her practice is limited to cats). I had never heard of this before, and he just had his annual checkup in November.

Constructive criticism always appreciated.

It's a condition which can occur in a few days so a check up doesn't protect against it. I've got a mixed practice and see this in dogs a few times a week and a few times a year in cats.

Daughter and Cats arrived.
They are accustomed to our way of living and know their favourite hidey holes

He was quite peacefully resting until the other arrived to disrupt his pleasure.

We often travel in a small campervan. There is an 'upstairs' storage area. On the long
drives the cat(s) like to nap up there.
So I made a ramp to make it easy for them to walk up.

Pampered pus.(s)

Just curious how your cats fare with your love of taking photos of birds?
Our cats have sat on the inside window ledge salvitating and making little mew mew noises whilst watching birds dancing about outside.
