except I think you have it set wrong ?? you moved tracking sensitivity to fast ??? I think it should be set on the slowest point. Once focus locks you want it to stay there on not jump off. so you want sensitively to be slower and stay in place.

Read here. This has been the standard on the new AF systems since the 7D introduction. I dont think the R has changed.......https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/41258784 (external link)

For birding this was one of the MAJOR required settings for the 1D and 1D MkII.
It used to be only on 1D bodies in a separate set of settings that could not be done in camera, called "Personal Functions" IIRC.. anyway, this was a magic bullet for AF on my 1D2.

Lovely. How do you find these two lenses (70-300 and 100-400) compared to each other at the range of 100-300 (IQ, AF speed, IS)? And how do they feel (balanced) in your hands with R?

This was technically handheld, if you don’t count the lens resting on my knee :p

There go those pesky facts again, getting in the way of the dialog.

I have to say I like them both just as well as shooting with the 7DII or any Dslr I guess. Both are sharp beyond what most mortal beings will ever need.
I’ve been able to hold as steady or more steady using this camera. I can shoot down low in the single digits and get really good steady images. So it’s all good. I like the 70-300L for lower light shooting as it seems to gather a smidge more light than the 10-400LII.
