Anyone have the Samyang/Rokinon 35mm f/1.4? I see that it's on sale now for $499. Wondering how it performs, heard that it's better now with updated firmware.
I've got it, and IQ is generally very good wide open. Simply beautiful. I just dont use it as much due to the size and weight, noticeably heavier than the tamron 28-75, which I tend to prefer if I'm going to carry something that big.
AF is a bit more methodical and not winning any awards, but behaves like a native lens (except very low light). If you want beautiful soft bokeh with good sharpness, samyang really nailed it down, very reminiscent of the 85GM, striking a fantastic balance.
the great thing with the A9 in particular is the adaptability, the older tamron 70-200 vc works great adapted and only cost me 550ish? A legit 2.8 lens with reasonably good AF and decent IQ. Not looking for much more in a 70-200, it's too big and heavy for my liking. It is an option, maybe when my kids get older? I've got two young ones that prevent me from carrying too much gear. 70-200 is convenient as heck, that's for sure, and I hope that tamron makes a native E mount version, they have arguably the best third party implementation around, the AF far better on the tamron vs samyang or sigma. It's like a first party lens, works very well. Sigma 70-200 f2.8 sport + mc11 might be another viable option. I recall that was due to release this month sometime, and the month is nearly over!
