Any of you guys using Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro? Is there a standout reason to buy one over the other (I’m a Mac user so can use either).

Final Cut is generally more intuitive and still very powerful, Premiere is more powerful and integration with aftereffects can be huge. For very very advanced videos, premiere feels way ahead, but for general content with less special effects, Final cut is much easier to use and sometimes it feels like lightspeed compared to premiere, some codecs, it just blazes right through. Magnetic timeline = Magic, I totally hate premiere's non magnetic timeline, really speeds things up.

Final cut feels like Lightroom. For the bulk of the work, effects, color grading, multiple layers/tracks, Final Cut.
Premiere is more like Photoshop. Big layers, motion graphics, third party plugins, collaborations, high complexity, longer production/timelines, Premiere wins it. No way can I make my hyperlapses that require very complex motion tracking on Final Cut, but aside from that Final cut is much nicer to use (I dont have experience with Mac's version of aftereffects).

are you a heavy lightroom user, then final cut is more for you. If you're a photoshop type of guy, then premiere is more for you.

Anyone have the Samyang/Rokinon 35mm f/1.4? I see that it's on sale now for $499. Wondering how it performs, heard that it's better now with updated firmware.

i recently picked this up along with the 50mm f1,4 and the 35mm f2.8, they all needed to be updated when i got them, i ordered the dock as it allows micro adjustments and other features, to be honest the f1.4 is good and such but its huge and heavy, since i have 2 to compare with the 35mm f2.8 i almost prefer the f2.8, its 1/4 the size and i think it handles flare much better, its a super fun tiny lens, i picked it up for a walkaround lens to keep camera as small as possible, works great, if u feel u want/need the extra depth of field with the f1.4 it comes at a huge heavy price,,,,,the f2.8 is a great lens

I felt like a complete ID10T...but once I realized how it worked, I thought it was great for that lens.

Don't worry I know the feeling too well sadly. I don't think I've seen that type of AF on a lens before either.

TRhoads wrote in post #18779428 (external link)
I only rented the 90mm, I was going out to Old Car City, and macro and textures were the subject, and I don't do a lot of that kind of stuff. So I don't own a Macro Lens, and TBH if I did want to own one, it would be hard to not get the 100L, I have never used it on the Sony, only in my Canon days.

I wish there was an affordable option to rent here in Australia. What you guys pay for a week is what we would pay for 2 days. The 100L is still a very popular lens and great for the price. I am a bit sad I sold it but the 90mm definitely seems like a good replacement.

LeeRatters wrote in post #18779433 (external link)
Trouble is they are struggling to sell over here for anywhere near £400!! I might just go in low at around £350 just to sell it!

Well imo if they are struggling probably better to sell now as when the new lens releases they market may be flooded with the old 35mm. Sometimes takes a while depending on the lens. Most of my stuff took weeks to find a buyer but the 100L sold really quick.

navydoc wrote in post #18779513 (external link)
I've really enjoyed my FE 90G macro lens for both macro and portraits and is my most used lens. I've never owned the 100L though so I can't compare the two.

I find the AF to be faster than I thought and very silent. I use my macro lens for mostly product shots and still life so I doubt it will disappoint. If you did used to shoot Canon, did you use a different macro lens?

I know you didn't ask about other editors but I thought I'd mention that you might try HitFilm 4 Express, the free version of editing software that also does compositing. You can add features as you go or upgrade to the pro version any time.

Depending on your needs, you can edit using Photoshop too. I like the fact that I'm familiar with the software, especially filters but it can be fiddly until you figure out how to add them as well as titles, audio, etc. Phlearn has a pretty good series on video editing using Photoshop.

Thanks, thinking I'll wait until the next year and see where the rumors of the 35mm f/1.8 G lens develops. To be honest, a smallish, 35mm f/1.8 is one of the reasons I picked up the Z6 in the first place, the 35/50 1.8 primes have been a pleasure to use so far.

Premier is like the industry standard. more for those really serious in video editing. I'm using only FCP for all my video. More easy to use imo.

i love to edit in photoshop too because I'm so use with the adjustment layers to enhance colors but the preview is slow. I hope they'll improve that part.

a7R III users: I am curious, do you ever use the pixel shift technology?

I may be doing a big gear upgrade this year and if I do I’ll want a new body with better AF. I plan to keep the a7R II, which remains great for land and urbanscapes. So, I’ll be trying to sort out whether I have a real need for the a7R III vs an a7 III or even a9. Thoughts and suggestions?

On the lens side thinking in terms of adding 16-35mm GM, 50mm 1.4 ZA, 100-400mm GM. And maybe side-grade from Batis 85 to Loxia 85.

I can not answer to the ArIII..... I have used one but didnt enjoy it much. I like my ol r2 and the A9 combo. I use my A9 for lower light, star shots, and birds speed etc. It so complements the r2.

I still think they will release an A9r counter part and am hoping that is my next move. Until then A9 and A7r2 are solid for me.

I really like that thinking because the a9 does enough different things while still allowing the a7R II to hold some strong advantages over the a9. I’d prefer having have two very well-used different-purpose cameras and I fear adding an a7R III would merely relegate the a7R II to non-use.

Between the a9 vs a7 III, I guess it’s just a question of available budget. A7 III is great bang:buck consideration.

i haven’t used pixel shift and ashamed to say I wouldn’t even know where to look for the function if I wanted to. I keep meaning to find out how to do it and try it but haven’t yet. Nice lens choices, I often contemplate adding a 16-35GM too. If it wasn’t for the fact I received a dud lens the first time I would already have it
