I recently moved from a 70-300L to the 100-400II. A couple of backyard captures with it paired to the 7D2. The black-capped chickadee is an approx 20% crop, while the moon is a much tighter crop.

hi all. ... I will have unlimited use of a Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 so I wont be too upset.

Does anyone in here have experience with the sigma on their 7DII ? any opinions on this lens

I've been very pleased with results in the 3 years I have had my Sigma. I chose the Sigma over the Tamron for various reasons, namely because it zooms rotates like a Canon (vs the Tamron which zooms like a Nikon), and also for the usb dock. I have no reason to exchange for a replacement.

I do have the 55-250 STM which is my light-weight option but I may upgrade to the new 70-300 USM, as the 250 focus is not up to the level I need.

Just a quick note that whatever case you are experimenting with - if AF is not locking on to what you want at any moment - simply repress the AF button until focus is achieved again - it is what I have trained myself to do, as my confidence only goes so far with cases and tracking technology...

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas Season. I sold my 70D to get a used 100L IS Macro, which is a unique beast I will tame in 2019 :p
Anyways, a few snaps from December (wildlife gone unless I want to add to my Canada Goose collection ;-)a :

Long Eared Owl? If so, great job finding one not buried in branches.
