Dec 30, 2018 10:26 | #14782 ozziepuppy wrote in post #18780525 OK, I tried to do all of the above. Was in M, set the f stop to 4.5, set shutter speed to 1/1000, set ISO to auto. Set to AI servo, case 1, defaults. Chose very small zone of AF points. And I just couldn't get the camera to focus at all. It would take a photo, but it wouldn't make any attempt to focus--would just take a very blurry photo. Well, photos. Finally I put it back in green box mode and got a few shots in focus (just on the water, not of anything in the air). Drive mode was multiple shots. I really can not figure out what I am doing wrong. In green box mode focus points would beep and light up red, but this did not happen otherwise. Camera is 5DMKIV and lens is 100-400II. I don't seem to have this problem with my 5DMKII or my SL2, where I just choose the center focus point out of the nine that are available. I even cleared all settings and started over. I am probably missing something obvious. I do not have a local person to give me some help. If anyone has any suggestions I am open. Thanks again.
Marci

Thanks to all who tried to help with this. Does your camera focus when you press the AF-ON button on the back of the camera? flickr

This would explain why it started focusing on green box, as it would then have automatically reverted to shutter button focusing. UPDATE: Marci

Yes it does. It now also focuses when I press the shutter button halfway. Marci
