I dig the Nikon design even if sorta ugly

Would be great for telephoto lenses

Haven’t shot yet but feels very balanced with the Tamron, much more manageable than when I shot with the 24-70GM. If I decide to go with the A7III, that 24 1.4GM would be a great option and kill two birds for me, give me a 24mm option as well as a 1.4 option as well.

Sounds about like me and becoming a fully registered architect...I was one exam of 9 from being done, and they changed the exams and I had to start over...thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours studying...gone. I never recovered and have not started again...and likely never will, I dont have the time. One regret in life...not finishing that...

Sucks!! :-(:-(

I done college at the time & that was enough. In Business funnily enough. I've never worked in a business/office environment though  I wish I done engineering or something now but that was 25 years ago so not worth dwelling on. I couldn't go back to studying now I don't think. If I really, really had to I guess. But I can't see it happening ever.

Managed to get out today & looks like I have a few shots I'm happy with :) Not edited & ready yet though :-D

Yeah I don't really care to pick apart optical characteristics for stuff I'm trying to shoot casually with. Like you said, I'm more interested in having a camera on hand more frequently, than obsessing over things that really don't make or break a photo. Different story for more critical shooting of course, but trying not to let gear-nut mentality get in the way of documenting.

For documentary shots, I kinda like the look of f2.8 vs f1.4....at really fast apertures things take more of an ethereal look which is kind of inconsistent with trying to document things in a way that looks candid and natural.

I still think the rx1rII is the perfect documentary cam. Checks all the boxes in terms of shooting experience, minimalism, but also optical quality and performance. I sold mine off because I needed the money last year when I was out of work. If things work out in terms of taxes and bonus this year, adding the rx1rII back to my kit is a high priority.

I told myself that when an RX1 body has a version with the z battery, I'de get one, but I may recant a bit. shooting with the FE 35 + cv 21, I can use very tiny pouches to do lens changes discretely. 21mm on my everyday carry opens up all sorts of doors. While my belt bags are fantastic, I'm still looking for a more visually appealing lens pouch for the 21/35, want a very snug fit, so options are limited..

I think the tam is an amazing 1 lens solution, works well on the r3 or a9, no problems with resolution. More often than not, I pair it with the 12-24 in the Peak 5L. Fits well, not overly heavy, the only lens I'm really hoping to get back before the lunar new year, I loaned out a ton of my gear.

Back to a previous post about finding the time. I have to admit to being one who struggles. I consider myself fairly young (well 40 in a few months), married with a young disabled son. Both myself and my wife working full time (40ish hours) as Regional Managers for large companies, this means that Mon-Fri we are more like ships passing as we are regularly away from home overnight. All these things combined means that when it comes to weekends, family time is important so most of my outings are with family, with me hanging back to take photos and running to catch up.

On a separate note, having read many of the posts, I have admit to being rather un-educated, left school at 16 straight into work and have worked my way up from the bottom in my industry. I have finally realised my career and employment goal. So I am looking forward to 2019. I guess my only regret now is not getting a degree of some sort as this will hinder me progressing much further. I’ve looked into fixing this, however at the moment I can’t see this happening due to the reasons in the first paragraph.

I give you a lot of credit for not allowing education to hold you back. Much too often you see people that are complacent and don’t look to advance their careers, often saying that they won’t be able to make moves because of lack of education or lack of experience. It’s true though that education shouldn’t stop when you get that degree and that you can always find the time to continue. When my wife was going through nursing school at her community college, it was not uncommon to see many of her classmates in their 40’s or even 50’s.

I’ve found that you also have to take time to make sure you’re engaged in the process and not just taking pictures. Last summer I remember taking my family, my nephew who had come for the year from Korea, and my mom up to Newport, RI. Drove th family car up there 3 hours. Played on the beach, ate a good lunch, and did some sightseeing. I was running around like a madman trying to take pictures of the kids playing, them running around, etc, that by the time I got home that night after a 3 hour drive back I felt exhausted. But I couldn’t really remember what we did, what I had eaten for lunch, or even that we had stopped to eat ice cream. I ended up taking maybe 200-300 shots, of which 10-20 were really worthwhile, but I didn’t enjoy the trip. Now I try to tell myself to take the camera out, take a dozen or so pictures, then put it away and enjoy, repeat when needed, instead of walking around with it holstered and ready to shoot.

Bit of a walk to get this panel and I was carrying a long lens on another camera too, but worth it,
and as mentioned prior Poof got a belly and a half full of petroglyphs on the trip--her wish. This one is in

Those are pretty amazing. One of them reminds me of the Disney Character Pluto for some reason. :-)

My annual New Year's Chili for 2018. It's been a tradition in my family for as long as I can remember.

Thanks mom.

Legit looking chili Gene. It looks like a nice oily beef base....not a wussy tomato based soup :-)

Beef...and sausage, yum. With my chronic indigestion, there is almost no heat so I have to make it up with tons of flavor! ;-)a

Every New Years Eve, my mom would make a big turkey roaster (her largest pot) full of chili that day so that on New Year's Day, she could watch the Rose Parade and Bowl Games with everyone else and not worry about cooking anything. It was "help yourself" style and we had people coming in all day long and doing just that.

Z battery would make the body bigger though.

But the RX1 battery life is downright terrible. It doesn't even use the NPFW50....It uses the same battery is straight up point and shoot cameras. When I had the RX1rII, I never left the house without 3 batteries...or a power bank to charge the damn thing in my bag.

One thing I noticed is there seems to be an increase in 3rd party Z batteries now, didn’t have any available when I had the a9. Used RAVpower back for the older Fw50 and was happy, anyone’s have experience with these?

Another silly question, where do you all stand on the compressed versus uncompressed RAW? Shame there’s no lossless compressed like some have, I’m assuming it’s a lossy compression?
