One thing I noticed is there seems to be an increase in 3rd party Z batteries now, didn’t have any available when I had the a9. Used RAVpower back for the older Fw50 and was happy, anyone’s have experience with these?

funny u mention these, i just got 2 of these with a double charger, i was going to order them about a month ago but i read there was a issue with firmware 2.0 not working well with 3rd party batteries, ravpower stated the new batteries are fully compatible with firmware 2.0, i have firware 2.1 and these batteries work great, maybe not quite as good as stock but then i have only charged them 1 time over the holidays, i know with my 2 factory batteires they got better with the more i used them, first charge didnt last long but now they are good, i got 2 battereies and a double charger dilevered to my house for less than 1 sony battery,,,,, i am happy so far

I have some of those that will be delivered Wednesday. Seems like they’re the only ones currently available on Amazon that are advertised as being compatible with the newer firmware.

Wasabi has some that are compatible, but haven’t listed them yet for some reason. I only know this because I emailed their customer support last week and they’re sending me replacements for the ones I have that now cause the error message.

The new Wasabi batteries will be here tomorrow and the RAVPower batteries will be here Wednesday, so I’ll be able to test them both out by the end of the week.

I have two RAV Power for the A7. I've not overly used them really but not experienced any issues.

Z battery would make the body bigger though.

But the RX1 battery life is downright terrible. It doesn't even use the NPFW50....It uses the same battery is straight up point and shoot cameras. When I had the RX1rII, I never left the house without 3 batteries...or a power bank to charge the damn thing in my bag.

I’ve got 5 batteries but never get through that many on a single day. The good thing is they are so small that you don’t notice the extra weight

Another silly question, where do you all stand on the compressed versus uncompressed RAW? Shame there’s no lossless compressed like some have, I’m assuming it’s a lossy compression?

100% compressed. I never remember to switch it

Nope. I'm sticking with the OEM Sonys.

Compressed. No real difference between compressed and uncompressed

One things for sure, memory sure is more affordable. Since I don’t do a lot of burst shooting, decided to pickup the sale that was advertised on Amazon. Bought two 64GB PNY 95Mb/s cards, each shows around 2,000 or so shots using my normal workflow for $32. Beats paying $210 for a single 120GB XQD card, lol.

Holy depreciation. I know people used to say that Sony cameras don’t hold their value, but I see that used copies of the Panasonic G9, which from all reports is a super performing m4/3 was launched at $1,700 in January of this year and used copies are being sold on FM for $950.

Same here...one bad experience will scare you for life.

I shoot compressed on the a9 so that it can do the full 20 fps when needed and uncompressed on the r2.

We have this Filipino Tradition displaying 13 Fruits on New Years Eve. The ancestors believes it shall bring luck. I don't really believe it but my wife wants to stick to the tradition and I love taking pictures of it.

I shoot uncompressed just because storage is so cheap. Even if I never use the detail I am retaining in the pics why dump it out of the pics just to try and save a couple of extra pennies on hard drive space. 4TB hard drive is what a 100 bucks to hold over 80,000 uncompressed pictures (using a7iii file size).

Sounds about like me and becoming a fully registered architect...I was one exam of 9 from being done, and they changed the exams and I had to start over...thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours studying...gone. I never recovered and have not started again...and likely never will, I dont have the time. One regret in life...not finishing that...

I had a few ideas of what I wanted to become. I am dyslexic so never could pull off much and then decided that I needed money and should get a business degree. Architecture was one I would have loved to have pursued, but I was not smart enough.

Now I get to direct architects..... That industry has changed so much I dont feel they "direct" projects anymore like they used to and I would have not enjoyed that change.

I have those regrets but every path has its own challenges and in my old age as of yesterday 54 I am what I am. Still somewhat confused, still not very smart. ..... now someone tell me how to turn on my A9 so I can pretend to be an artist.

Architecture as a career has changed immensely in my 20 years...I feel like we still direct our projects and are the lead problem solver and thinkers...but as a whole...the industry is wildly different now...everyone sets up for the law suit from day 1...and just about everyone involved is faultless...except us...we get blamed for any and everything.

not convinced with the test and how it relates to real world shooting. For this particular test, it would be better if done with natural sunlight rather than artificial. Secondly, there's still not a whole lot of difference zoomed in as far as he did. Whatever difference didnt feel meaningful.

Hard drive space may seem inexpensive, if you shoot a lot, and have high redundancy, it can get expensive real quick.

Issue for me isn't storage space...its write speeds.

Plus if I'm shooting something like a wedding where I can clock thousands of shots in a single day, uncompressed files will chomp through SD cards faster, and I'd rather like to minimize any card swapping.
