Canon EOS 6D won't turn on

My camera will not turn on.

I thought my battery was dead, so changed out with newly charged on.

I put the new battery in - and when I closed the door, the red led light started, but went out within three blinks.

Has this happened to anyone?

Any ides?

Try cleaning the contacts inside the battery compartment.

With anything in particular?

Try a cotton swab or an eraser. Take a look with a flashlight and make sure nothing is lodged in there.

Found this on another forum. 6D specific:

1. Make sure the camera is off, and then remove the battery, memory card, and lens.
2. Close the battery/memory card doors.
3. Turn the power switch to the "ON" position, and then press and hold down the shutter button for 10 seconds.
4. Release the shutter button, turn the power switch to the "OFF" position, reinsert the battery, memory card, and attach the lens.
5. Power the camera on.


Failing this or finding any corrosion/moisture, etc. in the battery compartment it looks like you might need to send it to Canon for an evaluation.

Hate to be "that guy" but are you sure it is actually not working?

Seems someone recently was fooled when the rear screen was set to off but the camera was actually working. Just press the info button to cycle the screen mode.

Okay - it's working.

I wanted to save face and say, "Oh, man - it was the contacts."

The truth is, in my WTH is happening-in the midst of taking down Christmas/fixing dinner chaos, I had simply turned the camera off.

I truly appreciate the help and time.

Lol. I think we’ve all been there. . No worries.

You should never hesitate - cause sometimes it's the easiest fix.

As for me, in my panic, I had simply turned the whole thing off.
