PLACING AN AD IN MARKETPLACE

IMPORTANT NOTE: ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN WITH POTN 30 DAYS AND POSTED 30 MESSAGES MAY LEAVE ADS.

  1. Include your country of residence in the title, even if you are willing to sell outside that area. Within the post, please provide an indication of where you live.
  2. Specify the currency you are selling in.
  3. Post pictures, where applicable, in the original post.
  4. Please list any extras or accessories you will include in the transaction.
  5. State the acceptable method(s) of payment.
  6. Please state if shipping/insurance is included in the price. Also state the method of shipping you are proposing.
  7. Mark SOLD by locking the thread: see https://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=179825
  8. All Thread titles should include one or more of the following abbreviations in the TITLE:

    FS = For Sale
FA = for Auction (it is permissible to advertise your ebay /auctions, but they MUST contain "FA" in the title)
    FT = For trade
WTB = Want to buy (when your looking to buy something.)

If you sell only to certain continent, country or trade area, please state that in title, e.g.:
For Sale (UK) Canon EF-S 17-85mm
For Sale (US) Canon EF-S 17-85mm
For Sale Canon EF-S 17-85mm (EU)
It is always helpful to your fellow members to have your actual location listed either in the thread, or in your member profile.

DOUBLE-CHECK THAT ALL FACTS AND PRICES ARE CORRECT, AND THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED PHOTOS AND ALL RELEVANT INFO. MAKE ALSO SURE THAT YOUR EMAIL IS WORKING AND THAT IT IS ENABLED IN FORUM'S USER CONTROL PANEL.

To automatically follow replies, use our "subscription" feature: either set it on in your User CP before posting or use thread tools -> subscribe thread after posting.

UPDATE:
13 October 2008
In attempt to avoid blatant scam attempts and have some post history on those who place ads, and to make the Sell and Buy forums a service for our loyal member and not just a passer-by:

From now on you will need to be an established member of POTN in order to start new threads in buy or sell forums. This means you need 30 days and 30 posts before you can place your ad or reply to them.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN YOU REACH 30 POSTS AND 30 DAYS, PERMISSIONS UPDATE WILL TAKE COUPLE OF HOURS.

Please let moderators know if you have any permission problems after the change.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you decide to act as an proxy for member who does not have permission to participate to marketplace or send PM, then we have no way to prevent that (unless you tell us). But be aware of this: if there is a scam, you will also get banned for aiding a scammer. So please do not do it unless you know the member 100% and trust him/her 100%.

RESPONDING TO AN AD IN MARKETPLACE

RESPONDING TO AN AD IN MARKETPLACE

This is your transaction. It is in your best interests to use traceable lines of communication such as e-mail or the telephone to conduct your business.

If you must use PM then feel free to do so but doing so you must understand that in case of trouble POTN will not give you any PM logs or user trace info because we are not part of the deal in any way. We do not guarantee that PM's reach their targets, either. When using your own email you have your own logs and also possibly your own ISP there to help you in trace.

It is up to you to verify buyer's/seller's integrity and it is up to you to manage transaction safely.

TO GET TO KNOW SELLER, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT SELLERS PRIOR POSTS AND DISCUSSIONS AT POTN. YOU CAN DO IT BY CLICKING USER NAME ON THE LEFT SIDE AREA AND SELECTING "VIEW MORE POSTS BY....".

Marketplace Feedback System

I'll explain how it works:

The main thing to know is:
There is no "give general feedback to the member" command. Each feedback is given via the thread of the deal, i.e. what the feedback is about.

How to give feedback:

Browse to the thread of the deal, you'll see a button there for giving marketplace feedback. A form opens, submit it and you're done. The target member is the thread starter.

IMAGE: https://photography-on-the.net/stuff/1_5_marketplacefeedback_A.jpg

If you are the thread starter, you'll first need to pick a target member for the feedback. The target member do not have to have replied to the thread .This lets you give feedback individually to all members who e.g. bought from the same thread. To make the target member selection process easy, you are offered some lists of names: "Members who have replied to this thread", "Members who have given you marketplace feedback", "Your friends", "The last 50 members from your PM Inbox, in order of PM viewed" and "search".

Thread starter needs to pick the feedback target:

Only one feedback rating is required: the overall rating.

Text is not required.
Item list is not required.

Items that you can rate are:

Overall Rating (0-10)
Communication (0-10)
Delivery (0-10)
Payment (0-10)

0 means "not rated" or" n/a". There is a "legend" which explains the deeper meaning of each rating.

Then you have a text area for item(s), and a text area for verbal rating.

A "Heads Up" is sent to the feedback target when feedback is submitted.

How to find member's feedback:

Feedback summaries:

Feedback summary can be seen in four places:

  1. Every marketplace thread has a feedback summary of thread starter on top of the page.
  2. Member info (left of each post: "MORE INFO | REPORT", or simply click the left side area or the avatar), shows now the marketplace feedback summary, too.
  3. Member page shows now the marketplace feedback summary.
  4. Marketplace Feedback page has the summary on top.

Marketplace feedback summary: the statistics display.

A summary box shows the four ratings (count, average), rating counts and overall averages per forum, and also by role of the member (selling/buying) and overall rating averages for those, for each forum. You also get links to automatic searches: all threads by member in marketplace forums, and searching for member's name in the old marketplace feedback thread. You'll also see time of the first and the last feedback received, and a counter of feedbacks given by the member. All this is in very small space, one glance shows a lot.

In member pages:

Browsing the actual feedbacks:

Click any rating in a summary and you'll get to see the individual ratings. On thread pages you'll get this as a popup listing, on member page you are taken to a "Marketplace feedback" page https://photography-on-the.net …/marketplace_feedback.php (not up yet as this is still version 1.4)

The feedback browser has options to see the feedback given to the member (default), given by the member, or both the the same time. You can view the member as a seller or as the buyer or as both (default) You can view individual marketplace forums or all (default), and sort the listing by feedback time (default), thread time, overall rating value (desc/asc). If you do the selections on the marketplace feedback page (not the popup), the URL contains parameters for the selection for easy direct linking.

IMAGE: https://photography-on-the.net/stuff/1_5_marketplacefeedback_E.jpg

Filtering dropdowns show also a count of available feedback:

---

NOTES:

Needless to say: you can not give marketplace feedback if you do not have marketplace posting rights.

Guests can also view the feedback.

Feedback summary & browser do not honor forum filtering or ignore member lists.

If the thread is closed or marked as DONE DEAL, you can give feedback regardless.

Feedback command can be blocked from a member, by mods.

---

Here's the legend in text.

LEGEND:

  • Overall Rating: The only required rating item. This rating tells the bottom line rating about the deal from start to finish.
  • Communication: was the description of the item correct? Were the emails or personal messages replied promtly? Was all the info delivered accurate and clear?
  • Delivery: was the delivery done in promised time? Was the packaging good and safe? Was the delivery cost reasonable? If you are seller or there was no delivery done, ignore this rating.
  • Payment: were the any problems with the payment? Was the method of payment easy and safe? If there were returns, were they done promptly?
  • Item(s): If there were more than on item offered in this thread and all did not go to same person, state here the items you bought/sold.
  • Verbal Rating: Anything that you can write to explain some bad ratings are appreciated. If you just like to say that all was done just fine, that is ok, too! If you suspect a fraud, report the post or pm mods, do not make such accusations on a feedback form.
  • Seller/Buyer: You can not choose whether you are a seller or buyer, this is automatically decided based on the particular forum and if you are the OP or not.

ADDENDUM to Marketplace Rules:

Paypal Gift is not allowed as a payment method in POTN marketplace.

Help mods to enforce this rule:

If you are offered Paypal Gift payment, please inform seller/buyer that it is not allowed here and request an alternative method. PM mods if seller/buyer insist on using PP Gift.

If you see an offer/request in marketplace with Paypal Gift as payment method, please report the post.
