A couple using the EOS R body and shooting into some quite bright light which the lens (using lens hood) tamed quite nicely.:-)

Australasian Grebe and Royal Spoonbill.

Cheers

Dennis

Where did I criticise the MKII versus the MKI?

I have experience processing film, including colour. I know processing has always been part of the game. Kinda obvious, mate.

Nevertheless, I acknowledge that there are a few folks on here who display remarkable processing skills in the digital arena, as has been remarked upon by others. I do not consider myself particularly expert in digital processing however, hence my hat tip toward those who are.

" ... one does not have to be real expert to acquire a basic command of image editing/processing."

You don't say! You are hereby awarded a Masters Degree in Stating the Blooming Obvious.

Blimey 'ere we go! WW3.:-(
No, you didn't criticise the MK1 vs the MKII - you did not even imply it. I detected a slight criticism of the MKII in that it was slow. I suggested you compare it with the MKI - and then see the improvement.

Thanks for the award of the 'Masters' in Stating the Obvious:-). It'll go with my 'Masters in BS':-).

That Ray is a really great question... The 7DII was and is a cornerstone for most all of the canon shooters in the world today.. If I hadn't had one I'm sure I would not have been anywhere as successful as I have been shooting wildlife. I've not used many cameras that could rival its prowess in the field.. Its quickness to focus and capture is quite astounding really. The crop sensor of the 7DII was by far the way to go for me in the last four years. I could do just about anything with that camera and come out smelling like a rose. For guys like us shooting everything from small birds limb to limb to Moose and bears at fair distances its the camera I would want in my hand.... Today that is...

The EOS R has some qualities in the image and use that I am trying to figure out. It can not replace the 7DII for speed to acquire and capture.... and I think thats it achilles heel...
there are times its AF leaves it in a no win situation and the AF just gives up... and you must force it back to work. if AF is close it is quite speedy to lock but much like the Dsl's we are use to.
I am still trying to figure out just where this camera fits into our world, I have thousands of hours with the 7DII but only a few short weeks using a R... Today I'm gong to go for a look see if I can find something a little more challenging wildlife... maybe Ill have more insight into the EOS R after I get a chance to really try and make it work...

Anyone shooting the 7DII should understand they have potentially the best camera a very small amount of money can buy.... maybe I'll have more to say after today...

I'm extremely grateful I got to ride the 7DII train for the last four years......

Thanks for your reply Jeff.
Your comprehensive comment confirms what I was thinking.
I am beginning to warm toward the R or next version, but at the moment I think it may be best to wait for the 7DIII if it ever happens - with lots more megapixels?
Also looking at some of the pics posted here by the 5DIV and the 100-400L +1.4x combination. This seems to give an equally good account of itself particularly when one is not relying on the crop factor.
I like your statement about figuring out where the R fits into our world. (Maybe top end general purpose?)
The new range of lenses seem to get a good write-up.

Had a beautiful day yesterday to get back out after a few rough weeks; rain just kept coming. This was some of the best photo op's of one of the worst looking deer I have ever photographed. Antlers all messed up and thin spots in the fur. But I made the best of it.

Absolutely sharp series - very nice. But, looking at your Tit, it seems a bit fuzzy at it's bottom end?

pcs wrote in post #18784844 (external link)
Maybe I was a bit careless with local noise reduction:oops:. Also the front of the treestump is about 10cm in front of the bird, that with a small dof distorts the way the sharpness flows.

I checked and I didn't use the local adjustment brush on that part, it's all due to natural optics, not my PP skill's!

I have an EOS R and an A7R3. The A7R3 is about to go up for sale. As you might expect, the EOS R plays MUCH nicer with EF glass than the Sony with MC-11. I will admit I just never really "clicked" with the Sony bodies. The R3 was leaps and bounds ahead of the R2. I still love their sensor and wish the R was 40 MP, but I don't know, the Canon just feels "right" to me. Someone in the R thread (I think) was saying the 100-400 will AF at f/16 with the 1.4 and 2x stacked. The DPAF is really really awesome. I love the camera.

The R is opening new doors: I just spent a few hours using it with the 100-400 II and the Canon 2xIII extender, and it ROCKS. That sets you at f/11, so the light has to be rather good, but man, the IQ is brilliant! In the past, I was always hesitant to use the 2x with my 400/500/600 because it chopped away a good bit of IQ, but the 100-400 II does remarkably well with it.. not what I was expecting at all!

Stacking the 1.4x and 2x, you either have to use the version IIs, or with the vIIIs you have to use an extension tube since the IIIs can't stack directly.

Anyways, here's a couple of shots using the 100-400 II at 800mm :)

Canon Extender EF 1.4X III vs Canon Extender EF 2X III with this lens: Pros & cons of each for BIF or just birds in general? Example photos? Would appreciate info from folks who have actually used one or both. Thanks!
