But as far as I know he has a 5DIV and so have I, and I have both extenders so I was able to give him the information he needed. (and I have nothing against the R but I've had my 5DIV for less than a year and I want it to last at least as long as my 5DIII which I used for 6 years).

Try to AF and take a picture with a ss 1/200 (low light, don't want iso any higher), they have moved before you can aim or press the focusbutton!

The R is opening new doors: I just spent a few hours using it with the 100-400 II and the Canon 2xIII extender, and it ROCKS. That sets you at f/11, so the light has to be rather good, but man, the IQ is brilliant! In the past, I was always hesitant to use the 2x with my 400/500/600 because it chopped away a good bit of IQ, but the 100-400 II does remarkably well with it.. not what I was expecting at all!

Stacking the 1.4x and 2x, you either have to use the version IIs, or with the vIIIs you have to use an extension tube since the IIIs can't stack directly.

Anyways, here's a couple of shots using the 100-400 II at 800mm

This lens is simply amazing. I played with it a little bit yesterday in a cloudy and cold weather we had and still amaze me, I can’t wait to try it in a better weather. I can see this lens will be abuse by me and my 500mm version 1 can sit back and rest for a while. I don’t have mark 3 of the TC but I hope it is acceptable with Mark 1.4 ver II.

On a 5D4 it should work fine optically, you will be restricted to the center most group of AF points If memory serves, and you'll get the traditional Canon imposed slow down of AF, though that's not bad with a 1.4X, but it sure will work!

Version 2 might be restricted but I get all AF points with version 3. On another thread didn't you say that the 5D4 does not suffer the imposed AF speed? Maybe you are referring to the version 2 TC.
