I do notice the difference in the quality of the EVF compared to the Rii which was very good. This for me is the only negative think I have encountered.

Overall this is an excellent camera for the price point and does as advertised.

My friend has an A9 and told me "try this thing out for a week". I was like no way will I even look in that viewfinder, I come from the 5diii and love the way my a7iii viewfinder looks. I dont want to lose that love :)

TBH for me the lower res viewfinder is an acceptable compromise for the speed and focus quality, the Nikon Z6 and EOS R both have nicer viewfinders than the A7III but the A7 has fantastic AF and speed, Especially with thew 70-200 GM bolted on which seems to have unlocked its true potential in terms of bursting

Like it was still fast before but now i found myself accidentally blitzing my buffer full...

I dont find the EVF a big deal among the 7iii, R2, R3, A9.

7iii and R2 are virtually a tie, both technically poor EVF's but practically, hardly matters.

R3 and A9 are the higher end EVF's.... either way, there's a certain amount of trust you have to give your AF. Ignorance is bliss in a good way, if the R3 or A9 had the 7iii EVF, it would be annoying, but I'de still buy them all over again, you pick your poison. If you manual focus a lot with MF lenses, then the high end EVF will be the one you want....there are some users that love MF with large aperture lenses, and for that, definitely consider higher end EVF. Even the original 7R had an evf better than the 7iii and R2, so that's a nice inexpensive option.

Of the mirrorless cameras ive had (GX7, GX8, OM-D EM10 II, A7 III) the III actually has the nicest viewfinder.. Though the GX8 wasnt bad and had a better rear screen

I agree on having trust in the AF, no matter how good the viewfinder, optical or electronic, i need my AF system to work and do its job reliably, i simply have to trust my camera to do that job correctly so i can focus on the scene and waiting for the decisive moments to time my bursts.

I don’t see a big difference in the EVF of the A9 vs A7iii. I’d certainly welcome more details, but as-is they’re both good enough that I don’t really notice when switching between them. For me, it’s not a dealbreaker by any means.

A7III paired with the Sigma 135mm Art, one of my favorite combos!

How do you find the size and AF? Is it native or Adapted?

When I first got the A7III I was shooting with a Canon mount one with adapter (I found it worked better with the MBV personally) then I ended up selling the Canon mount and waited 2 and a half looooonng months for the Sony FE mount version to come out. It is definitely a large and heavy lens especially on a Sony mirrorless body (and the Sony mount one is even bigger than the Canon mount) but it is well worth it in my opinion. The AF has been spotless for me, as good as a native Sony lens. The only thing that would make me switch is if Sony announced a native 135mm f/1.8 that is "affordable" and more importantly smaller/lighter.

Thanks for the info. I would love to get one but I feel like it's use would be limited for me due to its size and the FL. The images it produces are so nice though and like you I'd love the Sony GM version once released.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks and then I get to try it out at WPPI :-P

But, for what it's worth, I like shooting with the 135 art more than the Canon 85L II

Rumors say we should get an announcement within a few weeks and I'm sure Sony won't be far behind.

Do you just shoot portraits with it? I would mostly use it for street photography if I got one.
