On this occassion I trusted the split between two bodies. I tried to do instant backup to my phone but I can't seem to get it to work. Ideally I would always do that as the phone is always in my pocket.

It's just getting it to do it. I'm currently considering getting a second R as 75% of all my photos are now taken with it and would like to split the load better.

If you're in my shoes partly .. possible wait for the pro or version ii of the EOS R to arrive? I'm keeping my first EOS R and will buy the next version with two slots. I have 1/3 of the estimated cost set aside already.

I haven't done a wedding yet, but have a plan for my EOS R. SD cards are inexpensive and failures very rare. I would swap out cards about every 16 MB worth of shooting. So instead of everything on one big card or two, it would be split onto 4 cards. With some on my second 5DS body and it's two slots.

So far, I've been able to get the WiFi transfer of JPGs working but only tried it for a dozen. When I have a man or woman over for a model test shoot I may try a full set for a test.

I'd be more worried about losing cards though. I get super paranoid when swapping them and if the cameras are with me I can be super sure so are the cards. I don't think I'll have access to a usable pro version this wedding season which starts for me in April through until October and I don't think we'll see a pro launch until September.

What I can see is an X body launched first for the pro market. Then a simulataneous 5DV launch in two flavours, OVF EF mount and EVF RF mount.

If Canon really wanted some serious money from me they'd launch a hybrid OVF / EVF solution for the RF mount. That would have a massive impact on the mirrorless market in general.

I only have one drive in my desktop and I'm relatively certain that after being a professional in that industry since its very inception, SD cards are statistically WAY more reliable than HD are. Actually, I have SSDs in my desktop, but you get my point. This argument over one card slot is growing tired and long of tooth. VERY tired and long of tooth.

If everybody hadn't been indirectly shamed for the thought, you'd probably be shocked how many people WITH two slots only have one inserted at any given time. I know I did it ALL the time.

I have my fingers crossed that they allow RAW transfer over WiFi while writing to the card. That's not EOS R firmware, that's Canon Connect (or whatever it's called), but the app is so good with JPG I cannot believe they won't allow redundant RAW backup.

Truthfully, I'm sure there are hardware limitations to my proposal, but that would be a really elegant solution and knock down about half the internet negativity.

I'm also with WilsonFlyer on this. I think it's more likely my gear is lost, stolen, or destroyed than it is that a (tested) SD card fails. But my clients know I write to two cards. I used to proactively advertise it as part of my professional candor

So I feel a bit guilty now when I use the EOS R instead of the 5D4. But I do it.

I also never had a second card in use for personal images, only when working for a client.

Agreed. There will intentionally be no more lines of comparison drawn by Canon between the lines than are absolutely necessary, and as soon as they can make those fade away through education, they'll all be gone. This is about creating a new ecosystem, and more importantly, a new profit center for the next 30+ years, and saving the past only as much as necessary to make the pitch and the conversion.

For me, I think too much is made about dual card capabilities. I have been shooting digital for about 14 years now, only a couple of bodies over that period had dual slots. I’ve never had a card fail.

If I was shooting a high priority paid job or African photo safari where it really mattered, I would prefer a HD backup (or even 2) over multiple cards. Daily or post event dump to the laptop and an ext HD backup.

I prefer to keep the card in the camera, bigger likely hood for me is to lose track of multiple cards or misplace one.

I was also shooting with the 5D4 but 70% off all the images came from the R and as I was shooting it in a 2:3 aspect ratio they are fairly easy to spot.

Chris, this is just outstanding work. I'd absolutely hire you for my wedding.

Here are a couple of shots from my basketball game today. I processed them in Lightroom CC on the iPad as opposed to the desktop, so some things might be off. Overall I’m happy with how the EOS R performed today.

Isn't that an awesome lens !!

I bought the same for my 5D mk iii and 5DS and kept it to enjoy with my EOS R. I also have the Canon 85mm 1.2 ii and use both of them.

Wait a second, haven’t you heard the R is no good for sports? AF tracking is no good, can’t keep up

Yes, it is a great lens - well worth more than what it costs. I don’t get a chance to use it much, but I’ve never been disappointed when I do.
