Studio lighting - This is a basic 3/4 car lighting setup.
The background is a seamless Cove, sometimes called a Cyc, which is built into the seam between the wall & floor.

1. Usually a Mole Richardson or Smith-Victor 2,000WT fernell "instrument".
Spot it up. Flood it out. Move it around until the highlights in the top & hood look good.
IT REALLY HELPS to have an assistant do this while you watch from the camera position.

5. This is called a Flat. Ours were tightly streched muslin & painted white. There are some links to studios showing them in use in post #1.

2. Same as #1, except you're putting highlights in the side. Often we would hang black cloth along the bottom of the flat to kill the highlights in the side to darken the lower portion. It's all about the reflections, right?

3. This is a Inky, usually about 250WT. It has a snoot to narrow the beam, & is used to put some sparkle into the wheel & help to separate the tire from the wheel well.

4. This flat is usually a white painted 4' X 8' plywood, usually not lighted, & used to light the chrome & front end.

6. An overhead flat that can be raised, lowered, & tilted to help out the area covered by #5. TWO assistants will be needed to get the most out of it in the least amount of time.
One or two lights from the sides are usually used on this.

Pretty simple concepts! Except then you get a PITA prototype that has graphics & complicated paint that needs to be seen, so about half of this 'standard' lighting can't be used, like this 'Cuda in Post #22

Now you know why I like sunset shots so much. They're SO much easier! ; )

Very nice Frank! Me being the old gear head that I am, I have to ask; is this one tubbed? I get the impression there might be a lot of tire in there.

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.
