The Batis is slightly sharper in the corner than the 16-35 GM.

---------------

glad its not just me that felt that way...and I am not really surprised by it, the Batis is optically optimized for one FL...while the GM covers a wider range. Honestly, corner sharpness is good on the GM...better than my 17-40L was, or the 16-35 MKII I had for a short time...it never stopped me from using either of those lenses or printing big prints from them.

Surprisingly, I haven't shot this section of the San Antonio River. This is behind the new Witte Museum during some beautiful morning light.

Agree Travis. Much better than the Canon 16-35 MKII which I used to own. The FE 16-35 GM is a great all-around wide angle lens. It's weakest focal length is 35mm but still good. The lens is prone to flare more than the Batis 18 so just watch out for that.

Thank you! I got lucky with the light. I just kept exploring the area and knew this had some potential. Just had to wait for the light.

Cory, I'm dreaming of moving up to Idaho. Haven't even visited Boise and the region but my wife and I were talking that it would be a great place to raise our son. It would be a huge change for us but something about it is calling me.

if it s better than 17-40L was, or the 16-35 MKII(both Canon L lenses), then it should be more than good enough.

Thank you.

yeah, the flare caught me by surprise, but it only really showed up on one shot...pointed right at the sun...off axis with a clean front element it did fine.

16-35GM is quite superb next to the canon UWA. offerings Mind you that the 5DSR is a higher resolution body and that influences the dxo scores

Added a new print to my office collection. It's the one of the tree from BayPhoto.

I'm going to get a loaner a7rIII from Pro Services....might as well give the 24GM a test drive.

BTW you guys know that I've had a lot of good to say about Sony Pro Support, but this repair process has been less than impressive so far. It took a couple of days for Precision to start the repair because of some confusion about receipts and whether or not this was still in the warranty period even though I told them it wasn't. Only after they sorted all that out and I approved the estimate did they discover that they did not have the parts on hand. So more waiting on my part. Pretty disappointing that they wouldn't have parts on hand since they're the exclusive service provider for Sony...also disappointing that they did not order the parts sooner in the process.

The loaner program is a nice gesture, but something like this is like a car wreck.....you really just want to pay whatever you have to pay and have it done with quickly with so you don't have to stress about it anymore.

Nix Hospital

At the time of its completion in 1930, this was the largest and tallest hospital in the United States. It was also the only hospital with doctor's offices, hospital beds, and a parking garage all in one building.

This is a unique building in that it appears flat from a certain angle. You can get the full effect if you ride the river boat and look straight up from the river. I found this new vantage point from a nearby hotel roof.

My Manfrotto ball head is still going quite strong but I'm not thinking it's maybe easier to get a Sirui ballhead which are Arca Swiss compatible then get the L bracket which I was looking at before ߘ

The tour guides on the riverwalk boats always call that building out. It's really cool looking from down there

Yes it’s worth the boat ride fee to see the illusion.

On another topic, have y’all heard about NPN? I joined today on a trial basis. This has some of the big landscape photography names out there.

“Welcome to the NPN community! NPN is not just another photo sharing site, we are dedicated to the art and craft of nature photography. Our mission is to help you learn and grow as a nature photographer.

There are some important aspects about NPN that differentiate it from other photo sharing sites that you need to understand:

This is not a site to gain recognition. Other sites are focused on popularity, while NPN is focused on learning, creative growth, and building relationships.
Image critiques are a big part of NPN. Much can be learned from your peers, and we highly encourage participation. You have the choice not to be critiqued as well. The categories are divided into Gallery sections and Critique sections. Galleries are only for sharing images and discussion about those images.
Only thoughtful comments are allowed on NPN. Simple replies such as 'Great photo!' will be deleted, just use the like button instead.”
