Thinking about going to the A7iii from 5Diii. What to do for a 70-200.

I'd be curious how well a Sigma 70-200 performs. Comparing my Canon 70-200 f/2.8mk2 vs the GM 70-200 I'd say the Canon adapted lens focuses quite fast. The only issue is tracking when things move. I'm assuming the Sigma would be sluggish when it attempts to track.

It would at least attempt to do 20 fps tracking. Canon would be limited to 3fps tracking.

Interesting to find out performance either way. I find the 135 very usable in all scenarios, just don't care to use it much due to ridiculous size.

Correction, 10 fps tracking

How's the AF on that when adapted to Sony?

I was really impressed with how well the 135 f1.8 adapts to Sony and am considering adding the Siggy 70-200 sport.

That would be my question as well. To me the sigma is still just another adapted lens.

I use the canon 70-200 L IS ii now and its pretty quick to focus as long s everything is in the center of the lens and it doesnt move real fast. But still put it up for sale yesterday and will wait for the Tamron 70-200 in native mount.

The 135L f2 is on another level. It may be the only canon lens i keep.

Tracking with the sigma 135 was actually really solid. Via the mc-11 and supported sigma glass you get full hybrid AF so the sigma 135 felt basically like a native lens.

I do not ever buy Sigma ART glass for my Canon setup. I've never been satisfied with the AF accuracy.

However on mirrorless I'll use any lens I please. I'm quiet happy with my Sigma 24mm f/1.4 ART despite its doggy slow AF but the IQ makes up for it. I'll be picking up a GM 24 f/1.4 in the future........If Canon EOS R mk2 or different Canon FF mirrorless gets released I'll be jumping on that too :)

For portrait shooters the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 mk2 is stellar in IQ. For any action I'd be anticipating real life user's reviews of a new 3rd party E mount 70-200.

Works great. It tracks, it focuses quick and accurately. Not sluggish at all. I posted a review in the lens review section.

I had the same dilemma and ended up with the Sony 70-200 GM...That said the Sigma hadnt been released at the time. Would I get the Sigma now? Maybe. Would have been much cheaper. Right now the rumor mill is saying Tamron might release an FE-native 70-200 f/2.8 shortly (like the next couple weeks) and it might be worth listening if you can wait

As said above, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L works pretty good adapted so long as you do not try tracking anything. I found its tracking to be meh which was a huge reason i sold it and bought the Sony GM

Optically... i cant say ones really better than the other, the GM and the Canon are both very good pieces of glass. The Sony does also seem to not hold my A7III back (Not that it was slow before but the 70-200GM certainly feels faster than any of the other lenses i own)

Going for the tamron.

Sold my canon 70-200 Lii and just sitting on the cash waiting for the tamron to drop :)
