Thanks...the mud cracks want to be the star...but that sky was begging for a role in the show!

Man, I am glad I didn't see that section way out there...I would have done my best to get there...that must be where a bunch of folks find those great clean abstracts...next time...and there will be a next time...like maybe this time in 2020...

Thank you. Yeah I wanted to go out there but I liked the position I was in because I had quite a few different compositions available for sunset. I think you're right about that area. It looks clean and had some nice S curves there. The dunes looked small but everything is relative around there. I would love another crack at Mesquite Dunes. I don't feel like I got the shot I envisioned. Still grateful for what I captured though.

Like!

Thank you MM. I mentioned everything being relative around Death Valley. When we drove to the Racetrack Playa, we passed by Mesquite Dunes along the Northwest side. The dunes looked so small in relation to the mountains around it. I think Alex Noriega captured a cool shot of it to show scale.

Gorgeous shot. You (if you haven't) must go to Great Sand Dunes NP&P in Colorado.

Thank you sir. That sounds like a great place and probably a days drive from me.

I have covered Zabriskie, The dunes, some salt tiles kinda...how about some mud cracks...one of the guys on the trip was really there for mud cracks, everything else was gravy to him...he got the shot he was after too...after we left...I got a few I like, but realize that I didn't get low enough...so I will have to be happy with the ones I got...like this one...wild sunset light. It was so hard to find a good crack pattern. Some of them lead off the frame wrong, some of them had ugly broken pieces too prominent, some were very suggestive...but I liked the curve of this one...and oddly enough saw an image on IG of this one today from someone that just shot it...

This one works well even though it 'breaks the rule' of having the horizon split the image in the center.

Yup, California. About as north as you can get without being in Oregon (my hotel was in Oregon actually). The highway where the Lower Klamath NWR is runs right down the state line. It was about 26 or so outside that morning, so yes it was icy and frosty I. like the effect the icy fog gives the picture, showing that it’s winter. This time of year there are hundreds of eagles in the Klamath basin, which is why I was up there.

I think this is about right. Too low and you're shooting across the mud and forwards. This angle, with the wide angle in vertical, makes you feel you're looking down at your feet :-)

Nice. I missed that you were getting one. Just experimenting? Seems somewhat redundant with the RX1, so I’m intrigued about your plans for using it.

How about the 24GM? Still planning on getting that one as well? I’m teetering on the edge of buying one for myself.

The reason I returned the cv40 the first time was because I simply couldn’t nail focus on my moving kids so it just didn’t work for me as I would miss loads of shots. Now that I have got the rx1rii though I don’t need to fear missing shots of the family when we are out and about. I can then have the cv40 on the a7r for other stuff that I want to shoot and can just grab the rx when I need to take an af shot. I’m hoping that setup will work. I’m fine with manual focus on things that don’t move. I will see how that pans out

Definitely wanting to switch my Batis and my Samyang (Astro) for a 24GM. Price is a tad high for my liking just now though so keeping an eye out for used ones currently. Lost out to one this week as was outbid in the last 5 seconds of the auction

I bought my one for £900. I returned it though as it was decentered. Not sure how comparable it is to the US market though as we generally pay more but £900 converts to about $1177. They go for as low as £850 here

Has anyone had any experience with the Sigma 50-500mm on the mkiii bodies?

Would like a lens in this range but don't have the wallet to get the 100-400 that I hired before Christmas.
