Regarding the statue, it had an interesting career and it is now situated at the RE Barracks Chatham. UK.

Please spend a while reading the interesting Wiki-Link.

South Side Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 4th of July weekend. Some of the graves go back over a century with many Civil War veterans buried there.

Montgardon village memorial.
Our little village with a population of just 411 people was the site of a bitter battle during WW2. Montgardon was referred to as Hill 84. Later known as ‘Bloody Hill’. The 79th Division fought for this area for five days at a cost of 1,500 GIs.
On the 6th of July very year the local dignitaries hold a service of remembrance dedicated to their liberators.

The 79th Infantry Division landed on Utah Beach during 12-14 June, 1944.
On July 4 the Americans launched an attack on La Haye du Puits, which was encircled but held out for five days.
After house-to-house fighting they took La Haye du Puits on the 8 July.
This is the town's memorial to the 79th.
Note the Divisions emblem is the ‘Cross of Lorraine’ in recognition of their defence of France in 1918.

Rather poignant.
Not that they all aren't very sobering.
What's the symbolism of the animal. Pardon my ignorance.

I respect that inscription. Very aptly worded.

Bronze female lions and their cubs symbolize the protective role of law enforcement officers, while the male lions represent the use of force that is often required to enforce the law.

American and German military cemetery in Luxembourg. While Americans indulged each had their own grave, at the German cemetery at every cross are four names.
