Feb 03, 2019 15:15 | #9830 markesc wrote in post #18803012 I'd consider moving to the 80d with just a bare 100-400 II. I went from 5div + 1.4xiii + 100-400 II to the 70d +100-400 II, and now the 80d after 70d shutter broke. 80d + 100-400 II bare is a great combo and I don't think what you'll really see written much but from my experience having had both, is that unless you're dealing with perched birds/non moving objects, the 1.4xIII / F8 AF setup simply isn't consistent enough. I decided it would be better to simply figure out how to get closer to subjects. The next stop from the 100-400 II is really a 400 F4 DO II, 500 F4 II/III, 600 F4 II/III. I simply don't see a realistic way around it for serious bird / wildlife photographers. While one can nail the occasional shot, the amount of non keepers at F8 and missed opportunities + frustration led me to ditch the 5dIV + 1.4xIII + 100-400 II combo and just go 80d + 100-400 II, keep at at ISO 400 or less, pick nice weather days and simply accept that even if you did have a 600 F4 II, you're still in the same position in good vs. bad light.

This guy came in and scared off all the little birds. I’m no ornithologist, but I believe it is some sort of starling. Wayne...
