Super Blood Wolf Moon

Is it:

- A great name for a band?
- A new Marvel superhero?
- The adversary in the next Godzilla movie?

Whatever it is, it was a cold night out there with 11°F temperatures and a wind chill of -5. I took this with the M5 + Sigma 100-400|C at 400mm using the Fotodiox Pro EF/EF-M adapter.

There were 25 mph winds blowing more or less continuously, so I had the ISO set at 1600 in order to keep the exposures short. In the past, I've shot lunar eclipses with DSLRs and the same focal length at ISO 400 and longer exposures in less wind, and I don't normally shoot at 1600. This feels a little noisier to me than this one in POST 17726968, even though the overall exposure values are the same (1/4 @ ISO 400 vs 1/15 @ ISO 1600).

This was taken about seven minutes before totality. Shortly after this one, I had the bright idea to up the ISO to 25,600 in order to keep the exposures short in the face of the wind and the darker moon. Not a good idea! Everything taken after that is very noisy, with a lot of funky colored pixels, and pretty much unusable at my level of Lightroom proficiency.

But despite the cold, my son and I had fun, and that's the important thing. :)

Mike

Received the Viltrox .71x Speedbooster today for my M50. Of course Amazon man arrived well after dark so can only play with it in the house for now.

Seems well built, clicks in place good and lens mounted fine. Gave it a try with my Tamron 35mm and 85mm 1.8 primes and looks promising for getting great depth of field with the M50 and reducing the crop factor on focal length and depth of field.

35mm lens reports as 24mm (38mm effective vs 56mm) and the 85mm as 60mm (96mm effective vs 136mm). Wide open aperture reports as 1.2 on both and seems to reduce the MFD on the 85mm a little as well.
Looking forward to working with it on the flower shots to make my wife happy..

First shot (was taken at f/1.8 reported, wasn't wide open) -

A VERY rare occurrence, pointed the camera at my wife for a test shot, and she smiled and cooperated! That NEVER happens!

The old and the new! There’s 50+ years between these two pieces of Canon gear. I bought the FL 50mm f/1.4 quite cheaply as it needed cleaning so I stripped it down, removed the haze and dust inside and cleaned the barrel including the funk in the focus ring knurles (ugh!). I gave it a quick test run and its now perfect! I’ll take it on my next photo trip and post examples.

I've had my EOS M for about 5 years now and love it! I've done a little bit of everything with it (and used a lot of different lenses with the adapter).

So I found the trick to getting a good pic of my camera shy Aussie “Sheila”.

(For context)...

She is a total mooch when it comes to chips and as I was snacking I noticed I had her undivided attention so I decided to try and “bribe” her to pose. It seemed to work, but introduced another problem when it comes to timing the shot...

But in the end, it worked!

A real pleasure carrying this around versus my 50D. Quality is great, too
