Does anyone’s 70-200 zoom ring feel a bit gritty? I just bought a used one and that was the first thing I noticed. Today I noticed the weather sealing has a tear in it. :( Thinking about sending it in for the “refresh” service they offer for $59. If I could find the part, the weather seal doesn’t look to terrifying to replace. And the zoom ring doesn’t really bother me.

I haven’t bought a lot of used lenses. A little bummed but overall the lens still performs perfectly.

Yes, mine did and the focussing ring I described as shoogly. I sent it in to Canon for a service and it came back like a new lens. They did find a screw inside though so probably not the same as your issue.

I am probably being too picky on the zoom ring. It isn't enough to bother me. The thing is still crazy sharp, which makes me hesitant to send it in. :-P

I sent mine in to CPS in New Jersey once because I got stuff all over the rear element, and I could not clean it well enough myself.
It came back flawless and just as sharp and useful as it was when it was new.
I have since taken thousands of images with it and my confidence with the lens is 100%.
CPS N.J. did nice work!

You guys are confirming that I should send it just to be sure. I'm just hoping they would just replace the seal. I saw other places where people said it was like $100 part plus labor, which seems ridiculous on all fronts. Then someone else replied that he physically went to the place in NJ and they did it free of charge. I think I'll just send it in for the $60 refresh and put a note in to see if they will just take care of that. Wishful thinking...

Lucky people in that white home with a view! Is that yours, Annie?

No, Renata, it's a holiday home. It's very remote and is only accessible by boat or a 1.5 mile hike on a track. Just a wee bit too isolated for me!

A perfect morning (with the exception of the mosquitoes!) for fishing. Dramatic sunrise in the making, was able to get the fisherman in the photo.

Photo taken at Poenisch Park, Corpus Christi, TX. Canon 5D Mark IV, 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II lens (f/2.8, ISO 100, 1/125).
