Now on that Voigtlander Ultra Wide-Heliar 12mm f/5.6 e-mount, what
are you all doing for filters?
Is that the one where surgery is required to remove the hood?
Since my 12-24 wont fit something like that is the only way if I want something
really wide.

I just don’t do filters on mine. Or I use nature’s filter (sunrise/sunset/twilight). You can do screw-in filters on the 15mm I think...still very wide and the lens is sharper than the CV 12mm.

Read this guys review-
https://mirrorlesscomparison.com …der-10mm-vs-12mm-vs-15mm/ (external link)
Seems the 12mm --if you don't abs. require filters--- is the compromise between the two.
I have until end of August to decide...that's when the final salmon runs and feeding flurries will
be going on.

All three are amazing and I’d love to own the whole set. I love the extreme 10mm FOV.

Question for you on your a9...do you prefer it with the battery grip? Would appreciate your thoughts on the value of a battery grip. Does it improve the handling/ergonomics of the camera?

I'm a fan of the grip.
Used to be we needed more battery capacity/no more with the new batteries
but it does help with the 100-400, i'm sure even more with the 400/2.8.
Plus, when traveling, if using a Sony battery grip you can charge BOTH batteries via USB which is
real nice. I plug in the usb cable at night...wake up and both fully charged or topped off. I had an off brand
for the Rii ....Velo maybe, not sure....but it didn't have that capability.

Another thing is warmth. Batteries put off heat when discharging (charging too) (especially the big lithiums in the campervan) and two batteries
in the same compartment share that warmth for the cold days of shooting (does it get cold down there in Georgia?)....but can work against you
in mid-July/August. My theory of course.

Another semi-advantage, if you take a spill and the rig goes down--just maybe the battery grip will act as shock absorber if it hits first.

Short sleeve weather in West Point, GA right now. Way too hot from mid-June to mid-September.

Hoping to get an a9 this year, so I’ll definitely be considering the grip. Thanks for your perspective.

On the crazy-wides, I’m in the opposite boat as you...I have the CV 12mm, but don’t have the ultra-wide zoom (wish I did!). I just happened on Mark Galer’s photos with the Laowa 10-18mm. Looks pretty darn good for a $800 crazy-wide zoom! Might just be going on my 2019 shopping list. CV 15mm is already on the buy list.

Hmm, I was thinking the folks at FM generally dissed the Laowa 10-18 and for several reasons. Remembering wrong?
I like Galer though...tells ya straight up he's a Sony guy and has been for a long time.

Thought I'd add that I really like the Voigtlander 40/1.2 here...just better handling/removal compared to the Lox 21 I got rid of. I'd bet this
12mm would be same.

For those of you with a cv12 check out this filter hack https://www.fredmiranda.com …/topic/1580703/3#14747487 (external link)

Similar to the 12-24 filter hack. Basically a 60mm filter jams in nicely and doesn’t vignette

Seriously studying that lens. Size rules. Poof has given me the summer itinerary involves a
bitty dinky plane and I'm limited to 20 pounds of togkit. Here's my sample loudout which
includes predominantly long glass....as long as I can fit into this small of a pack, but with a smidge
of landscaping glass.
Sony a9+1.4TC+FE100400
D850+500PF
Sony 2.0TC
Nikkor 1.4TC
FE24GM
Sony 35/2.8
Sony 55/1.8
Batteries/chargers/cables pad and Gnarbox (not here yet, waiting on the 2.0SSD 1TB

But I think this Voigtlander at not even 3x3" will also fit.
Mindshift wanted a pic of the loadout. Its the Backlight 18L and I'm very pleased with
what I can get into it and that it will fit under the seat in front of me on Delta

I see I’m not the only one that ditched the charger cable and swiped an unused Apple adapter (from my MacBook Pro).

Lee another shot of yours that could be 1/2 mile from the house. But I know you have short drive to the ocean.

Yeah, about 15 miles/30 minutes to the nearest - but it's a tidal channel so the water is pretty muddy at times. The Jurassic Coast or the Welsh Glamorgan Coast is about 70-75 miles/90 minutes drive on a good run.

Eddie I read the thread.....me confuse on a 'blank 60mm filter', not glass eh/can stick a finger through it, but where do you buy one?
So blank goes in, then real filter screws into it, and he mentioned the blank may need a wee thing piece of tape---got all that, but again
the blank filter puzzles me because I googled and looked at B.H but didn't see anything come up.

Maybe it's a step-up or step-down ring filter adapter?
