Beautiful ferruginous hawk, Robert! My buddy and I are going to drive 5 hours into a snow storm this Sunday, hopefully to see this hawk among others.

This is certainly a great grand finale shot, Shalu. You've kept us on the edge of our seats for several days now. The photography certainly has been over the top.

avondale87 wrote in post #18807482 (external link)
Yes, fitting finale, desert.

Actually watching these and other Cormorants here has given me a respect for their beauty, once that would never have been entertained.
They would have been rounded up and exiled to the UK as convicts :p
Or worse, those poor suckers and 12 gauge........

Good that I can see things differently, despite their thieving ways :-)

Thank you very much, Mike and Richard!

Archibald wrote in post #18807457 (external link)
Cool! But why can't the other ones catch their own fish!?

Lame-Duck wrote in post #18807463 (external link)
Just like people, some are better fishers than others. :p Actually it's prolly because they look upon that as an easier meal to catch. All they have to do is take the fish away from whatever bird has it.

Yes, hunting is hard work :-P:lol: As soon as a cormorant emerges from water with fish, usually several others would rush to it. The sound often alerts us photographers that there is action to shoot. If the fish is really big, it takes a few tries to eat the fish, so as soon as the fish is dropped into water, it is free for all. One of my friends even saw a cormorant pulling a half eaten fish from another cormorant's mouth :-P:lol:

Lovely pictures of an elusive bird Kev but I'm pretty sure it's a juvenile sacred kingfisher rather than a forest. Forest kingfishers look more like this:

Thanks mate, and yes, you're right.

Spectacular shot, Shalu. That's a prize winner right there. You sure found a tribe of hungry birds. :p
