With my a7r3, I also like using Spot Metering tied to Focus Point Link so that wherever my Flexible Spot focus point is, it will meter for proper exposure at that point. I think this is very useful for portraits or images of single objects.

Note too how multi metering works when Face Priority is also selected.

This is totally how I have my rig set up. It's very, very handy! It eliminates the need for exposure lock/recompose like I used to do with canon cameras.

Blue hour over a field of mud cracks. The sky had a nice warm glow in the distance but sunrise was a bust due to no clouds. Still, the patterns in the mud tiles were interesting enough to capture.

Definitely seems like AV works best for you and that's what counts! On Canon I would often set the exposure in Live View then switch back over to take the actual shot. This was a huge reason why I wanted a mirrorless cameras, I wanted that EVF to save me the hassle.

This is why I use Av. Aperture is most important to me for creative purposes...especially when when shooting people. So I set the aperture to my desired effect and just keep an eye on the SS making sure it's fast enough for crisp pictures. Tweak ISO and EC as needed.

I know TV always seems to be less used compared to AV but I know it does have it's uses, like if you wanted to drag the shutter to show motion.

This is actually when I'd switch to manual...but I suppose Tv would work as well. I just can't wrap my head around letting the camera choose the aperture.

Yeah I use AV for portraits too. It's basically a semi-automatic mode though, since I still tweak EC and minimum shutter speed as the composition calls for it. It's sort of like manual with hard stops to make sure SS isn't going to low to keep a sharp image given the amount of movement I'm capturing.

I had no idea this place even existed, the wife found it when we were looking for things to do around Flagstaff.

It sits on 160 acres, 30 miles West of Flagstaff. 140 acres you can drive through (you have to stay in your car, very similar to Lion Country Safari in FL), 20 acres you can walk through. Great for the kids, something for everyone, really.

Below is a Bobcat, American Badger and a raccoon.

The American Badger was a feisty guy who followed us from the time we entered his line of sight until we left it. At one point he was standing up in full intimidation mode, but of course, I missed the shot.

glasses...glasses do that and mess up EYE-AF...

Tammy looks really good. I think the main question is that since you have the 85gm, how much that 50-75mm focal range really matters. That's the main reason the 28-75 isnt in my radar
