For all the internet thrashing Canon gets they know exactly what they are doing. It's the lenses you buy into and the R lenses look awesome, much better than their competitors. The new RP camera will sell like hotcakes, most people who will buy this camera could care less about video me included.

ie: with the current exchange rate, US customers pay MORE than Canadians! (by $29.00 CDN)

I don’t know how you calculate but it sure seems more expensive in CDN vs cost of living and wages in my area.

I’m still not really complaining.....

$29-ish on that item, rates will fluctuate every day, probably not really worth for someone in USA to go through with a Canadian purchase... ...

no, of course not. that was not the point of my reply.

Foreign currency and exchange rates baffle a lot of people. Lots of Canadians think Americans get a discount.

I was at the car dealer some time ago. The shop guy rang up a lady's repair charges and said, $1200... but since you are paying in USD, that will be US $910. Another lady in line gasped and said, Luckeeee!

If it is priced around the same with exchange rate, it is nice.

But.... I looked at RP full sized files provided in one of the links from yesterday and...
I'm finding them awful. Nothing seems to be sharp at full size. And rendering is kind of plastic even at relatevly low ISO.

Based on cost of living and similar rate of wages the cost of electronics appears cheaper in the USA. Someone making 80,000 CDN or someone in USA making 80,000 is my reference point based on location. This is where my simplistic reasoning is basing the cost of electronics and referencing local gross income. I’m not making the comparison based on exchange rates. Much larger population in USA. Different approach in thinking as Americans would but within their local area.

Mind you I’m living in of the most expensive city in Canada.

If I buy a 12 dollar burger in the USA it’s about $16 CDN dollars. However a $12 burger at home is $12.00. If you buy local and reference your net income camera gear is cheaper. This thought process is based on buying local and similar income. If you make $40 an hour in either country a guy in the USA is paying 1299. A Canadian making the same dollar an hour is paying $1699 in canada.

I don’t know how you calculate .....

You can buy it for $1,700.00 Canadian, I have to pay $1,300.00 US which = $1,729.00 CDN. A difference of $29.00 CDN I have to pay more than you do.

Truly, having spent I good part of my life in Canada, I understand, we here in the U.S. OFTEN get the better deal. But it seems not so in this particular instance. Seems about equal to me.

Never thought I'd be a part of that crowd, but I honestly think this camera is a very "meh" proposition. I know Canon protects lines, but this just seems like a very poor value compared to the rest of the market out there. The price is good, but the EF-S and 1080p fiasco, no 24p, line skipping, and from what I heard, IPB compression. Even DIGIC 7.

Someone at Canon should speak up and just point out that the R line won't take away sales from the cinema line. There are many more ways to differentiate video cameras from mixed use cameras. It'll still sell like hotcakes (and more power to those who enjoy it, I don't mean to take anything away from them), but this really feels like a uni-tasker than a mixed use body, and Canon feels like they've already done everything they can on the stills side of things.

Which files?

I'd wait a bit before passing judgement. No guarantee, but I doubt there is something inherently bad about this camera that makes the images ugly.

either way I'd be curious to see which files you saw.

In your example the American is making $26,400.00 Canadian more annually than the Canadian is.

You are intentionally dismissing exchange rate and that the two dollars do not have the same value. I don't know why. Please go ahead and proceed, I chose to go the apples to apples route.

either way, we sure do pay less for gas!

lol, I'd read up on the 6D2 sensor. It's been out for a while, and until someone proves differently, I feel quite sure this is 6D2 sensor.

that said, if history likes to repeat itself, it could be like the "R" and for some reason the removal of the mirror = less DR!!! ;)

P.S. in the EOS R thread they are talking about ice scrapers in Canada!

,. even further OT than currency exchange in Canada!

Well, it looks like the 6D2 sensor is probably used, so a 24MP Rebel or M will probably give you more DR.

oh canon..

before I go on.. i'm certain that beautiful images can be shot with this camera.. just like on the 6d2.

well atleast they were a bit more reasonable with pricing this time? right? yeah...

I would have called the 6d2 camera of the year had they released it with a proper price...I only dumped on it because of how it was priced on release.

i'm not sure what to say about his one.. ok so yes its under $1400 .. for a full frame!

sigh..

I guess if you are purely a stills person(and only a very casual video shooter) and are a beginner.. and want full frame but are on a limited budget (although with your limited budget all y ou'll be doing is adapting ef lenses)..

I’m waiting for confirmation. You never know until it’s released.
