Very cool Phil….

Thanks Jeff. It's really surprising (to me) that they are this regular in the middle of the city.

Very cool shot, Phil. It kinda looks like ol' Hooty is giving you the "stink eye." :p

Thanks Mike - you're right, it does! Lol!

Congratulations Phil on a great shot and successful sanctuary.
Happy trails.

Thank you, Paul. It' pleasant to see them visit repeatedly. When I first put the box, I never expected to see one in it but the folks at the bird store assured us they would come. It only took a couple weeks for Hooty to stake her claim.

It looks like he (she?) just barely fits in the opening! Pretty tight squeeze there fella!

You're right, Charles - it does appear that way. However, it's not nearly as tight as it appears. This one is Momma. I know that because we saw them mating last year and the male is more reddish in color. I have not seen him yet this year, but I did see her looking around for him. I know where he like to sit & monitor the box from in previous years, so I'm watching for him too. :)

It was a nice day yesterday to get to the lake; had a close encounter with this otter. I was following a female belted kingfisher and before I knew it I found this male playing it cool and not flying as I passed 30 feet away.
