400mm f 2.8 Mk III + 2x. This lens worked well with 2x at the minimum focus distance of 8.20' / 2.5 m for the small guys when they landed close. This species is always moving catching bugs.

Very cool. We have the black-billed magpie here. Now I see the need to include the bill color in the name. Ours are common but hard to photograph... as soon as you point the lens, they take off.
