Awesome. I fly foot launched powered paraglider but NOT with my 1div! Can't imagine blowing a takeoff and having it smack Me in the face! 2 months ago it got a new mirror box so fingers crossed it is good for a few years yet.

Yep, kind of tough to handle the camera when flying a PPG. That's what I like about the powered parachute, I'm sitting down and steering with my feet so hands are free.

So will no one be able to service the camera. My AF is a bit sketchy and my back button focus doesn't work anymore.

No, or yes...

The camera will be able to be serviced. Not every fault will be able to be resolved though. It will depend on what parts are needed.
Some repairers may not want to take on some or all repairs as they may not be able to get replacement parts if they break something doing the repair.

I traded in my 1D4 last year for a second 5D4 body. I miss some features of the 1D4 but I tried to get ahead of any issues with Canon not being able to service it.

I am unaware of an official announcement from Canon that the 1D4 is no longer serviced yet, but it sure sounds like if they do still do it, that the end is near. I'd contact Canon ASAP,. and or look for a 3rd party for repair.

Talking to a Canon rep at the Canon Learning Center in San Francisco yesterday and he confirmed the end has arrived. He also recommended Midwest Photo in Columbus, Ohio for future repair needs. Just passing it on as a place to try if you do need service or repair. YMMV

I bought my 1D IV last year for $610 (45k on the shutter). At that price, if something goes belly up on it, and I cannot get it serviced, I don't think I will feel too bad. Plus, you can always buy another second-hand model for dirt cheap.

I tried to put in a service request the other day, and Canon said they didn't service it anymore. :-(

Even though I use my 5D4 99% of the time I can't bring myself to part with my 1D4. The last of the 1.25x crop bodies....

They may end up being like old cars. You'll want to own two: one to use and one for parts

So not to hi-jack but you all are very familiar with the 1D IV, I just bought 2 of them one is in pristine condition the other
a bit rougher but no matter.

I tried inserting 64GB SD cards and neither will accept them- no problem with a 32gb or 16gb, is this a common issue?

FYI I love this camera-feel like I have been missing out.

Thanks in advance.

I tried a 64GB SD sometime back and it won't work on my 1DMkIV either. Not certain if it is a defect, or rather a function of the firmware never being updated to handle larger SD card.

Then again, I've never had any worries using 32GB SD cards since the files are relatively small.

I've used my 1d4 for bird photography for years. It's a wonderful camera. I planned to replace it for a 7d2 about 18months ago and borrowed one for 10days. I used both camera's side by side everyone of those 10 days. The 7d2 is certainly a great camera but for me the 1d4 had the edge so I decided to keep it. I love the 1.3 x crop factor and often when in bird hides I get the shot that others missed. For a 10yr old body it can still stand it's ground against many of the later newer bodies. I see so many around still which is a compliment to the camera itself. I think canon should of announced a 1d4mk2 or why not a 1d5 with a crop sensor in a 1d body. If my 200,000+ 1d4 packs up I will be buying another used example. They are silly low prices for such a great bit of kit.

Thank you,
just checked both bodies have latest 1.1.5 firmware.
