Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Photograph Something You Have Never Photographed Before (and how would we know?). As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

The title says it all!

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them) but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

Bit too much clutter, but here is the fine old building that used to be the Ponsonby Post & Telegraph Office.
In a previous life as a Telegraph Technician I recall carrying teleprinters up & down the stairs to the Telegraph office on the second floor (probably 35 years ago!)
I often wish now that I'd taken more photos in them days...

Its the heart of the flower from a banana tree. You peal away all the flower pedals and then it was cut in half. In less then 10 minutes it started browning (I had to set up my camera:-D ). It was then cut up and soaked in lemon juice for adding to soup later. I personally would rather have a banana :-P

It looks caramelised. And delicious, John. I love bananas. I eat one every day.

It's been spring here. Warm and sunny but also freaky as this is February and we're not to have this type of weather with temps up to 20ºC until April or thereabouts. I went to the countryside two days in a row. Got me a tan! In February! Confusing thing is that it was also sooo lovely after all the grey, dark and wet months. Conflicting emotions...

Of course, it being February, the air was still very damp so not exactly ideal conditions for shooting birds. Most haven't arrived yet anyway. Except Northern Lapwings. Now I have shot these birds a lot, I have also seen pairs up in the air doing their acrobatics to impress the ladies, but I have never seen or photographed flocks this huge as normally they have long since arrived before my first trip out. And this was taken with the 400mm so just covering part of what was in the sky!

I also think I never photographed (seen yes!) a tractor before. Does that count?
And look at how damp and hazy the air is...

We posted at the same time, I see. Right, no banana then. Still looks good though! :-P

Levina, was it really that bright there? I checked my screen brightness to make sure it wasn't me.

I looked at it on my phone and thought it was just a slice of a regular banana. Now it looks different on my PC. Yes, I have seen them in local ethnic food stores but have never seen a cross section. Nice.

I see it on my PC as extremely bright too and thought it was overexposed but the histogram indicates otherwise, so perhaps it was Levina's intention.

Space heater, brought from home loooong ago. It may date as far back as the 1920s, when things were sturdy and made of metal, and is still in use. Originally had a cloth-covered cord and two-pronged plug.

Yes, I wanted it light. I made a few shots of each with different exposures and chose the brightest as that was closest to the real deal (it was pretty bright out there. And you know me, I like it light).

However, the pics don’t look overly bright on my screen. Maybe it’s time to recalibrate my monitor. Haven’t done that in a while.

My monitor has just been calibrated and the two shots look truly blown out, Levina. You may need to fine tune your monitor:)

On mine they don't look blown out, they just look pastel. The histograms don't have anything creeping up the right wall.

I would certainly recommend you consider the 5DM3.

I have both a 60D and a 5DM3, and have used them for low light work. I've found the 60D to produce a decent image at ISO 6400, and the 5DM3 to produce even better images at ISO 12,800. Below is a link to a set of soccer photos taken with the 5DM3 and the 100-400 (original lens), all shot at 1/500s and f/5.6. ISO ranged from 10,000 to 16,000. All were shot RAW. If you look at individual images and click on "Info" on the right, you can see the actual settings. All of these were taken using single shooting (vs continuous). Post processing was in Lightroom.

http://grahamglover.zenfolio.com/p380696282 (external link)

I find the 100-400 focusses quickly and reliably on the 5DM3, and while I'd love to get the 5DM4, there's little compelling reason for me to spend the money for a bit more performance. I do a lot of photography for our high school marching band, mostly at night, and typically with the 24-105 f/4, 70-200 f/4, and the 100-400 f/4.5-5.6, almost always at f/5.6 to get the depth of field I need. In the bleachers and behind the scenes, I'm shooting at 1/250s; on the field it's 1/500s. Between marching band and sports, I shoot on a lit field where we have decent lighting. Focus is quick, accurate, and reliable.

The first photo below is one of the marching band photos in the bleachers where the lighting is awful, hence the ISO 25,600. The area is lit with the spill-off stadium lighting. The second photo was under a street lamp where the students were warming up for a competition. This was a real low light situation. I have no problem pushing the ISO on my camera, and have almost never felt limited by my 5DM3.

I hope this helps!

Perhaps pastel, very pastel is a better word for it. Just depends on our perception :p
