Greetings,
This is my first post so hope I'm doing it right with the image posting. I've visited this site often and finally decided to join.
This is from a few years back. Challenger 604 on an evening approach into Las Vegas McCarran Airport.

ChrisJ1,,,nice shot. Could you explain the direction of the light source for this? I find it unusual that the upper turbine blade tips can be illuminated so brightly.

I think what you are seeing is the sky behind the engines, showing through the bypass section of the compressor section. The core of the engine is a smaller diameter, and centered, so you are seeing that part of the fan blades (revealing the sky) that bypass around the core.

keeperseeker,

golfecho is correct, the light is coming from behind the engines through the bypass section. I've seen interesting photos where the sunlight/sunset comes through the open areas of the bypass section giving it a fiery glow, it almost looks as if the engine is on fire.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
