Anyone here convert their raw files to DNG?
I know this is a big
NO! for some, but I've been using Adobe stuff from the mid-90s, so I am setting aside fears of dng being a potential proprietary format and am converting to dng. Not only that, but I'm using the 'lossy' options for 99.9% of my photos because it saves a massive amount of file space. Thing is, any degradation from the conversion is unimportant since I'm retaining my fully edited TIF files.
Going forward this is my workflow:
1. Import/Copy .ARW raw files into LR
2. Edit any keepers (save as layered PSD)
3. Publish jpegs
4. Export edited PSD files as TIF (delete the PSD files)
5. Convert raw files to lossy dng. Any exceptional photos (an extreme rarity for me) will be converted to non-lossy dng.
I do for most of my family snaps, I dont need the range and import directly to DNG first, lossy, smallest file, 10mp.
for timelapses, lossy dng, but keep the resolution. I reimport some keepers (rated) as normal raws.
almost like the opposite of your workflow. For cleanup of older raws, I dont do the conversion, just a lot of deleting.
